Another big difference between the Vick and Little cases....a new commissioner is in place. The new sheriff in town has been cleaning up since he got into office.

Little was reckless, and the result was the loss of life. But it was not premeditated and intentional. Vick did what he did with full knowledge and intent. Makes a difference.

No, we do not, but I would like to see stiffer sentences being imposed on those who commit violent crimes against other people.

I don't think the penalties are tough enough for the cruelty of animals, either. The sentence Vick will receive really has nothing to do with the torture of animals...that's a misdemeanor. He's being sentenced of federal gambling.

You can torture and kill animals and receive 40 hours of community service, and a $250 fine in my county. That's pathetic!

Anytime you drink and drive, I think it is premeditated.
    You are correct about Vick.

I could be wrong, but wasn't the charges against him weren't for the killing of the dogs but for gambling and other stuff, that is why the state of Virginia might go after him also. I could be wrong.

And up to now I like the job he is doing. With Jacksonville there are a few players every year that have run in with the law and seem to come out ok. I have never worked at a place that anyone has had a run in with the law, but I have read about every day folks who have. It just looks like so many of the players have run in's.

What happens in pro sports is that, very often, young men who've never had much material wealth suddenly find themselves with more money than they ever believed existed, and aren't mature enuff to know howta handle it. They are susceptible to professional parasites who lead them into temptation & sometimes get the athlete into trouble, while escaping themselves with a good chunka change. And a few of these athletes, white people as well as black, develop a gangsta attitude early on, & carry this over into their lives as pro athletes, where they have the money to buy their own thugs. Iverson is such an example. Hopefully, he's learned a lesson & will keep his act clean the resta his life & doesn't become a cellmate of Rae Carruth's.

I believe the pro sports leagues could do well to invest in a counselling service for all rookies coming into the league, educating them in howta WISELY invest their money, who to avoid, places not to go, etc.

How many team sport athletes have we seen, down-n-out, flat broke after the cheering stopped, in the same boat with Mike Tyson?

I believe Vick will receive jail time of a year or less & a fine of several hyndred grand.(After all, gambling isn't the most heinous of crimes) and a suspension from the NFL for this year. Whether the Falcons will retain him remains to be seen; I believe that right now they're waiting for the justice system, and then the Commissioner, to finish their dealing with him. If the Falcons cut him, he will most likely be picked up by another team, or possible play in Canada where their type of football is ideal for Vick's abilities.

Big-time money is here to stay for big-time athletes worldwide, and the best thing American pro sports leagues could do for the players if they really care about them is educate them in howta handle their wealth. Some athletes have good, HONEST agents who are really concerned about the players' futures, but that's the exception rather than the rule. Unfortunately for Vick, he got caught up in a "good ole boys" thingie in which he mighta gotten away with were he not a celebrity.

Is dogfighting, cockfighting, & other animal fighting a rare thing? Not hardly. I can drive on HIGHWAYS, not back roads, all through ohio, WV, & KY & see hillsides fulla rooster hutches & some dog kennels that appear to have nothing but pit bulls & Rotties, all sitting in open view. I doubt if those roosters or canines are being raised/sold as pets. However, it's not against the law to own/raise those animals.

Shoot, I could prolly find a local cockfight within an hour & a fairly-local dogfight within a day. Tell the cops? Yeah, RIIGGHHTT! Long as there aint no people violence, dope, or DUI involved, they couldn't care less.

I don't think that Vick will be able to play again in the NFL until at least the 2010 season at the earliest - based on an 18 month prison term and then a year suspension by the NFL after that.

I pity the NFL team that would sign him to play for them after his suspension ends. It would be the worst PR that any NFL team would have ever faced.

I doubt that people will hold it against him for too long...eventually the shock of the story will wear off and people will get back to caring more about their team than morality again. I predict his next stop will be with the Raiders or the Browns. The Raiders 'cuz it would fit nicely with their reputation and the Browns for two words..."Dawg Pound". ;)

The NFL has all rookies go to a class on that when they come in to the
NFL, most teams do the same. So many don't listen and want to go back with the old home boys. Remember today being bad is cool among so many of the young. In the time they were in collage they should have learned something if they went to class.

You ever tried to tell a 20 to 25 year old young man with more money than most of us will ever see, what to do?

Sure, he thought about that beforehand and knew itwas not right. But he did not premeditatedly kill anyone. Vick thought about it and premeditatedly had those dogs killed.

The former made some poor choices which terrible consequences.
