To reply to your question Poncho, The whole thing surrounding children, the FACT that it is deemed necessary to have arms in schools, teaching kids to kill or maim, teachers as gun toting .....it is incredibly sad that society is declining to this.

Teaching children self defence is one thing but I find it repugnant that a child does not have the right to attend school and return home safe and sound!

It is incredibly sad - as is a society that says evil is good and good is evil. Unfortunately, this is the world we live in and so we need to be able to address it in proactive ways.

I will never teach my children to throw things at someone with a gun. I'm sorry but that's the PERFECT way to get shot.

They have the right - what's lacking is the ability. It is horrendous that we do have to have these discussions with our kids and that the possibility of this happening has become a reality far too many times. This is life in the United States now. It's not exactly the land of security, freedom and dreams anymore.

Yea this is a no brainer. If someone is there to indiscriminately shoot people and you stand up to throw something at them then you, at that point, become the focal point for the killer and the next target.

This idea was not thought threw very well and most likely thought up by someone who has never been in a situation where they had to defend themselves from a gun.

This whole thing is not wise, ill thought out, and just plain incredibly stupid.

Not only that, but 8 oz. cans are those small cans perhaps 3" high and 2 1/2" in diameter. The most popular foodstuffs contained in them is tomato paste and tomato sauce. So some shooter comes into a school and 25 kids hurl cans of tomato sauce at him. Some hit, some miss and burst open. Now you got glops of red sauce all over the crime scene.

The really sad thing is probably half of the kids being taught to defend themselves with canned food are being prescribed psychiatric drugs that are known to have side effects including mania, violence, psychosis and even homicidal ideation and no one in the mainstream medical community or media is sounding the alarm about it.

Any one of them could be the next school shooter.

On 9/11 we had 3 planes crash into buildings, yet a 4th went down in field. Personally, I'll teach my children to be like the people of the 4th plane. You can teach your children to cower all you want.

I can only assume that this was said tongue in cheek.

Was it a plane full of 12 year olds?

People can talk big all they want. Until they or their children are ever in that situation where their lives are at immediate risk that's all it is. A bunch of big talk.

Unless you have ever been shot at or had a gun stuck in your face and you feared for your life you are just talking out of your backside.

What we do not do is plan to put our 12 year olds in harms way. Ever

Several years ago, I was robbed - and yes he had a gun pointed at me.
How I wish I had a can of beans to throw at him - NOT!

No. But the hijacker wasn't 12 years old, either.

And I believe a 12 year old going into a school with a gun will not be stopped by tomato sauce either. You do not deal with a deranged individual with a gun planning to harm children by throwing rocks at them.

Let me ask this: How many people have gone into a school and harmed kids?

How many were stopped by having things thrown at them?

How many were stopped by being either shot and killed or having a human being overcome them and stop them?

How many have had cans thrown at them with knockout power? Again, he's already planning on killing them. Might as well give them something to have a chance with.
