Military Humor Makes People Mad...Again.

I need to realize that not everyone understands military humor. In fact, most don't. I was teasing my cousin about "Only deploying to Kuwait", and I made some family mad, it seems.

That being said, it's not the first time my military humor has gotten me in trouble. Anyone else run into this?

What did your cousin say? Kuwait or not he went to the Land of Bad Things and saw the elephant. Tell the rest of them AT EASE THE BOVINE EXCREMENT.

My son was in Kuwait. His unit moved in and out of Iraq as needed - went to the field - they called it. He did what was asked of him and earned the patch on his right sleeve. I had two nieces that did their time in the Air Force in Iraq. The older one just retired in January. She was a HVAC mechanic not a combat arms MOS. That didn't stop her from being at the Baghdad airport within 24 hours of our taking it. The younger one was a dental hygienist. Her wartime job was with graves registration so she changed her specialty to military police. She took some amazing videos of firefights she was in.

We have a string of Army folks in my family dating back to the Revolution. We always teased the girls with, "The Air Force? I thought you were in the military." They understand and laugh along. We all did our part. A Grunt will take a bullet for a Squid, Jarhead or a Flyboy and then lie next to them in the hospital busting chops about how the Corp would be lost without Army.....

Civilians just will never understand the deep respect underlying all the kidding.

When your cousin gets back, he/she will understand the joke better, too.

And yes, I have problems with people understanding my "military humor."

Ditto. USAF 1979-83.

Another bus driver:laugh:

This morning, think it was Under Armour was selling marked down clothing from each branch......for the Army, the Marines, the Navy, the clothing article was marked down from $99.00 to $75.00. That same article with the Air Force went from $99.00 to $58.00....you could look it up....why would they do that?

I catch a lot to flack for being in the Coast Guard. The only foreign country I saw was New Jersey. Through all the picking, there is still the respect that veterans share.

I was in Vietnam... USMC... In the thick of battle. You should catch no flack at all... You people do a great job and save a lot of people. You come to the rescue when called. Hold your head up high and be proud of who you are. Your battle is no different than mine was. You put yourself in harms way and provide a much needed service... Veterans are ALL one brotherhood!... Brother Glen:thumbsup:

Here are the rules

Civilians are not to make fun of military personnel
Military personnel are not to make jokes about other services
Army personnel are not to make jokes about other Corps
It is permissible to joke about any LT's
Air Force personnel are civilians who are authorize to wear a uniform.

Did I forget any rules.

Did you have to turn in your man card when you became a weekend warrior?

You do know I'm just busting on you a bit. My son just finished his last drill. He considered re-upping but finally decided to leave it behind. He would be stuck as an E4 until he either retired, chose another MOS or moved to a new unit.

I have nothing but respect for everyone who serves. Inter-service ribbing is SOP. Trying to keep 2d LTs from hurting themselves is too.

Anyone else run into this?
One of our deacons was a career Navy Chief. We were talking about all the places we had been stationed (I was Army, '66-'72, active, '72-'91 reserve/NGA).

After telling him some of the places I was stationed, he looked at me and said, "All shore duty, huh?" :D :D

We had a Coast Guard Commander in the church some years ago. We were chatting at the Coast Guard, which I admittedly knew very little about, when I asked him if the enlistment requirements were the same as for the other services.

He said, "No. The only requirement is that you be over 6 feet tall."

I was nonplussed. He then said, "That is in case the ship sinks. We can all walk home."

Whenever I was asked how I got in the Coast Guard, I would reply "I lied about my height"
