What qualifies a land (Israel) as flowing with milk and honey? Of course the phrase is a metaphor, but a metaphor for what. In our modern world, someone noted it is not flowing with "black gold." And the world has less arid land, with pastures for milk producing livestock, and vegetation supplying nectar for honeybees.
So what actually is indicated that makes Israel a land to seek? The displaced peoples have ever since wanted their land back. The current land was taken by force, and recently (1940"s) retaken by force, being the decree of Allied force nations.
But in spite of prior occupation, this war ravaged land is called numerous times the land flowing with milk and honey.
To my way of thinking, milk and honey are used to symbolize the blessings of God. It was here, while under Roman rule, that Mary brought forth our Christ, our Deliverer, our Lord Jesus.
