Minneapolis Is Going To Do It

Nine members of the 12 member Minneapolis City Council said today that they will begin the process of dismantling the Minneapolis PD and go to a community oriented system consisting of "community led safety initiatives" instead of a police department.

I predict that crime will skyrocket out of control and for anyone who owns property there, the value of said property will drop like a rock. Who is going to want to buy a home or open up a business in a city where criminals will have the upper hand?

The only good thing about this is that it should finally show the complete stupidity and lunacy of liberal/leftist governance and it is too bad that the good law abiding citizens who live there will be the one's to suffer.

This is American democracy at its best; local level decisions by elected leaders who will be held accountable (for better or worse) by the voters.

There will be no hiding behind bureaucracies or regulations; no “I’m going to fight for you”, no “I’m working as hard as I know how”; no “the other party wouldn’t work with us”. No more excuses.

If they do this, they will own it, and as someone else stated, it will reveal to everyone whether it’s a good idea or not.

However, in smaller communities, the local Sheriff will police areas without police depts. I suspect the county officials will have to raise taxes on these city folks to cover the costs of hiring new deputies to police the city once the dismantle the PD.

peace to you

In smaller cites yes, but not a major city. But like you say, they will own it and will have no one else to blame. The populace voted these people in, so I hope they like what they voted for.

Fritz (Walter Mondale) was a native Minnesotan, went to UofM, Twin Cities, lived and worked in Minneapolis.

Ilhan Omar is the congressional rep for Minneapolis, after representing part of it in the Minnesota House.

These people have long been twisted, sister. Hmm. Wonder what they're thinking in St. Paul.

This won't happen. Look at socialist history from Germany, Russia, Italy to the UK and the commonwealth countries and you quickly see that socialists have to have a police state to continue. Minnesota sadly has been a leftist state for a long time.

I wonder what the next Minneappolis Chamber of Commerce meeting might be like. I have a feeling that many businesses will be looking to leave town while others will simply board up their shops and be gone.
Minneappolis could become an empty shell of what it once was, like Detroit.
Maybe the Arabs living there will be allowed to set up street-side kiosks and sell stuff on the street like they do in mideast countries. If that happens, maybe I will don a turban and haul some of my clutter and junk to Minneappolis and hawk my goods in the street.

Big or small does not not matter. They will simply hire more people at the S.O.
A small dept might hire 3.
A big department 3,000.

Calling them Public Safety Ambassadors is a real mouthful.
The new group will eventually morph into the old police force but one with a different name because people will still want and do the same crimes.
And what they are doing will hurt the communities screaming the loudest more than the other communities. We may see places better off hiring more private police forces.

AND, with them doing this, who as a business would want to setup shop in areas which will have more lawlessness. Rioting and looting and other crimes does not inspire business confidence to go in and rebuild. And defunding the police is going to make that even less likely.

Now you dont hear this on the media, but some of this push comes from Islamic people who always wanted to self police their areas. So when the police are pulled back and everything that goes with that, like criminal justice and CSI investigations, it is possible we could see very strict islamic laws and even courts setup which will be harsher justice.

OK, forget the money for a sec and try to make sense of this. How does having county police (instead of city police) police the city make it more community led?
If that is what happens then it's just a political statement. The federal government does stuff like that all the time (Example - Congress mandated DOD to do its own clearances. They moved NBIB from OPM to DOD and renamed it DCSA. So now they are "doing their own clearances").
