1. Bible translations are largely determined by the publisher. John MacArthur uses the NASB exclusively, yet his works (from Nelson, recently so) are using the NKJV, who owns the rights to the NKJV. Same is true of Zondervan, Broadman & Holman, Crossway, et.al. I've actually seen a typo or two from MacArthur as he interacts with the NASB text but the NKJV is printed in some of the Bible study books he publishes through Nelson.

2. I'd bet no book that goes to press in the next 12 months will utilize the TNIV, especially if Zondervan has anything to do with it. They want the new NIV out there in a flash. And the counter is true: the old NIV will probably not be utilized in publication going forward starting next year.

John MacArthur uses the NASB exclusively...

No. He is an enthusiastic supporter of the ESV now. He says it's:

The newest and freshest translation.

By far the best translation.

A word for word accurate representation of the original languages.

I recently acquired one. It is VERY similar to NCV; but almost every verse has a slight word or puncuation change.

The title has [expanded] in bold between "The" and "Bible" in normal weight typography, when in the bodytext it is quite the reverse. I find the expansions very disruptive to reading (it is almost like being required to read their footnotes). The expansions are marked with superscript sigla and can be type or (alternate translation), type 'L' (a Literal translation), a 'T' (for a Traditional rendering), or a 'C' (Comment); there are also cross-references and type n (textual variant notes) found within these brackets. Mercifully, the Gospels list parallel passages in the margins.

I'd like to see this cited. In the pulpit he still uses the NASB. I've seen the video blurb where he is peddling...er, advertising his new ESV Study Bible. That's all it is. People are claiming he's some sort of ESV disciple now. Isn't true. He has been asked point blank in Q and As, two I know of within the past few months, and he's as staunchly NASB as he's ever been.

Here is an article he wrote talking about Bible versions:

That's just the promotional blurb I referenced. He's said the same things in the past about the NKJV when that was the text for his SB. Mac is a good salesman. Always has been.

He may start using the ESV tomorrow, but as I said earlier he is still in practice and in word, a staunch NASB guy.

You said you wanted to see those statements of his cited. You apparently didn't really pay attention to the video.

I'll have to check his more recent sermons to see if he's still using the old NASB or the "freshest translation" which incidentally is "by far the best translation" i.e.the ESV.

No, I did. You just take this website as gospel. And you must not have been paying attention when he praised the NKJV which he doesn't use. You seem to think Mac was sitting around one day and decided to wax poetic about the ESV and someone happened to catch it. This is promo vid, friend. Nothing more. Now, like I said, if he comes out using the ESV tomorrow, fine. But unless and until it happens, we need to look at this without bias.

Please do. I watch the telecast every week, listen to him weekly, and referenced several, as well as several Q&As from Shepherd Conference and T4G (and addresses). He was asked point plank about versions and he stated unequivocally he's an NASB man.

If we follow your logic, Paige Patterson is now an ESV man since he blurbs for it on the website. So is Alistair Begg. Neither use the ESV, but the NKJV and NIV respectively. Or what about Max Lucado and Erwin Lutzer? or Walvoord? What one says for marketing purposes may be different than their practice.

Remember he praises the NIV on that link I posted. Well, read his chapter (okay, not authored by him, but sanctioned by him in lectures) on Bible versions that first appeared in TMS journal and in his subsequent Rediscovering Expository Preaching. The NIV is not exactly given high marks.

When? Before or after the video was released?

What one says for marketing purposes may be different than their practice.

Okay.

What I would like you to tell me is why you asked for the citation of his comments that I posted in #5? You acted surprised. You came across as if that was dubious info. Yet you have claimed to watch the video with JM stating exactly what I referenced.I don't understand why you asked the question in the first place if you had indeed heard him make the statements I quoted from him.

After the video. T4G hasn't been that long ago. That video was shot pretty early according to what some folks have told me. One Q&A was at a conference just weeks ago. These kinds of things are in the works for a long time. Christian publishing is no different.

You were purporting it as hard and fast evidence that he:
He is an enthusiastic supporter of the ESV now.
I don't buy your premise any more than I buy that Lucado or Paige Patterson are "enthusiastic supporters" even though Paige said in an earlier release that the ESV was "The bible version we've been waiting for." No doubt, he said it in Army fatigues :) Any way, given your statement, I was thinking you had more evidence, say proof he was using it for sermons, that he had abandoned the NASB, or that it was now the required version at TMC/TMS. After the fact, I realized where you probably were coming from.

Don't you find it odd that MacArthur, now yourpurported ESV devotee, is now a "devotee" after the release of his study Bible in this version? Where's his name in the list of advisory council members or endorsers? Did he just now get around to reading it almost ten years after its release?

Sorry for the occasional misspelling. Hard to type with two toddlers in your lap sometimes :)
