How about these?
***********************
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
A hint to the wise is sufficient.
A rolling stone gathers no moss.
Be ye temperate in all things.
Bread is the staff of life.
Everything that glitters is not gold.
Familiarity breeds contempt.
Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.
Gods mills grind slow but sure.
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
Honesty is the best policy.
Know thyself.
Knowledge is power.
Man purposes, but God disposes.
Robbing Peter to pay Paul.
Silence gives consent.
Smooth runs the water where the brook is deep.
Speech is silver, silence is golden.
The fatherhood of God, and the brotherhood of man.
Time and tide waits for no man.
To err is human; to forgive is devine.
To the victor belongs the spoils.
To thine own self be true.
What's well begun is half done.

I must admit that I cheated.

There is a whole list of expressions that are commonly thought to be biblical quotes in the front of my Bible. I only put a few here, but there are lots of them (some I don't recognize at all for instance; "God tempers the wind to the shorn lamb". Never heard that one before.) Fun thread! Thanks!
