You have said such vicious things on the Baptist Board as, "I have no tolerance for missionaries" (or "missions," I don't remember how you phrased it, but they are the same) and, "Many missionaries are charlatans." People use "no tolerance" nowadays for various sins on the premesis, illegal drugs, rats and other vermin. These statements are an assault on us missionaries on the BB and all we are--simply normal people trying to please and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ.

You have thus declared yourself the enemy and opponent of us missionaries and all we do and are. Now you expect us to believe you are trying to understand another point of view.

Find those quotes or post a retraction, John.

Now, I want YOU to understand another point of view.

Noq.....That should clear THAT up. Fortunately, the "swindlers," er, missionaries I know don't hold grudges against folks who speak ill of their vocation, their ministry, and belittle their calling.

How is saying that it is more a case of swindlers masquerading as missionaries implying that missionaries are swindlers? Why would YOU wish to draw a parallel between swindlers and missionaries, when I drew a distinction?

The quotes have been found. I will not retract.

What view do you want me to understand? That you believe what I have devoted my entire life to is wrong? Not interested.

    tiny clears throat.... RBELL!!!!!

Thank you for you kind words.
    BTW, I love you missionaries...

It just saddens me to see people blinded by bad theology.
But this is really nothing new...

As soon as Christ told the disciples to go out and spread the Gospel, the pharisees tried to stop them...
    Same ol tricks by Satan...

Remember, John, we wrestle not with flesh and blood, but against the forces of evil...Satan is trying to get to you.
You must be getting close to someone that Satan doesn't want to lose.

Amity, is misled. Prayer is the key. She is caught in a denomination that teaches this... they have always taught this.. she is just parroting what she has been taught.

I still say, she has a heart for missions, but is afraid to admit it.
I have debated with her enough now to see she has a good heart.. just misled.

Sorry, amity, but this is how I see it.
I count you as a sister in Christ, and I am sure we will agree on other issues, but as you can see, we disagree completely on this one.

Please take the time to study this out. Do it for yourself...
Don't take my word on it, or John's, or anyone elses... But God's.

And if you still disagree with us...

Just repeat to yourself, "tiny is always right" until you start to believe it!!

No, seriously, if you still disagree with us this side of Heaven, when we get there, look us up, and discuss it then... We will all know the right way then.

I'm sorry if you took my denunciation of crooks as a denunciation of missionaries. Most missionaries are quite honest, I don't doubt. The overwhelming majority, in fact. And most of the ones who aren't are probably not really missionaries. But the field is definitely fraught with that problem. I guess because I am on Christian listservers and fora, I do get an inordinate amount of appeals to help "missionaries," and most of them are probably fraudulent. If you don't believe me, enter a search term into your browser like "missionary scam" or "missionary fraud."

But guys, all your indignant outrage has done nothing to convince me that missionism is scriptural, and that is the real issue.

well, I guess if one goes this long and ignores scriptural precedence (Romans 10, the life of Paul, Silas, Barnabas, Great Commission, et al), going a few more threads isn't that hard.

You need to get off the Internet about missions and consider real Baptist missions. It is a totally different ball game than the Charismatic crowd that advertises for money like you are talking about. I don't know a single Baptist mission board, individual missionary (whether under a board or otherwise), church or parachurch foreign missions organization that advertises for money like that.

If I may amplify on my previous post, here is an irony. I am a church-planting missionary, as are Mexdeaf and C4K. We seek to win folk to Christ and start churches and train believers. That's what we do and that is all we do. If it is overseas we call it foreign missions. If it is in the States we call it home missions. In particular, my own board does not have anyone else as missionaries. We do not start institutions, only churches.

To our Primitive Baptist folk: didn't someone start your church once upon a time? It may have been 100 years ago or more, but someone started it. So, how can you oppose what I do as a missionary without opposing the very basis of the existence of your local church? Someone had to start it, now who did? And on that basis, how can you logically oppose church-planting missions?

There are no Primitive Baptist churches here in Japan. None whatever. Why? No one started any because there are no Primitive Baptist missionaries in Japan (though Pinoybaptist tells us there is such a thing as PB missionaries). Yet there are a couple of thousand PB churches in the USA. Why? Someone started them.

So tell me. How can church-planting missions be wrong, by your logic? (Leave out for the moment whether boards are Biblical or not, because many IFB missionaries are not out under mission boards.)

Amity, this is where we find missions all through the NT. The apostles started many churches, and then wrote many letters to them. Paul started churches at Corinth, in Galatia, at Ephesus, Thessalonica, etc. Then he wrote letters to them reminding them of when he had been with them. Church planting missions--the NT is full of the concept.

John of Japan, why are you attacking Primitive Baptists? When did we ever attack you? In fact, I don't remember ever attacking anyone or anything, only questioning missionism and the scriptural basis for it. To answer that, you need to do more than just "aw, its all through the Bible." Obviously there are questions of methodology and the propriety of having auxilliary organizations in the church.

And if there aren't PB churches in Japan I would be surprised because there are sure quite a few elsewhere in the far east. So keep looking.

The reason we keep calling on Primitive Baptists is because so far on these threads the PBs are the only ones that are against missions...
If there is another stripe of Baptist that is against missions, then let them speak up.

Answer John... who planted your church?

Sigh. I did not intend that post to be an attack. I'm sorry you took it that way. (But I do still feel you attacked me and other missionaries with your comment about "zero tolerance for missions.") I felt I was making a good logical, Biblical point. As far as the thread not being about PBs, I don't know any other group which opposes missions, so I'm afraid PBs are a permanent target. But if you are sensitive about it, I'll refer to your side as "those who oppose missions."

So, then, do you not believe that people started churches and that process is in the Bible? You want details from the Bible? The 12 started the church at Jerusalem (as representatives of the Lord Jesus, naturally); Paul and Silas (as representatives of Christ) started the churches in Galatia and Phillippi in Acts 16; they started the church at Thessalonica in Acts 17; the church at Corinth in Acts 18; the church at Ephesus in Acts 19. I could go on, but do I need to? These are facts.

Then is your view that no human ever started a Biblical Baptist local church, but somehow they God magically brought them together through no human agency? I do not mean the Baptist "church" as a movement. Baptists do not believe in "the church" as a denomination.

I am interested in the history of your particular local church. How did it start? A message from God to a bunch of people--"Meet on Sunday on 4th Street!" Or was there a leader led by God--a church-planter if you will?

Jesus Christ. How did the baptist church ever survive without missions ... for centuries? Because the Lord added to the church such as should be saved.

I will check your scriptures, but I suspect they are just scriptures about evangelism.

You must go to a very old church...
Jesus through church planters started your church, just like churches around the world are being planted by missionaries..

And missions is evangelism... that is the purpose of missions...
But no, I typed in "missions' into to my Naves dictionary, and these are the verses that came up....

I will type in evangelism and see what comes up...

It referred me to a minister's duty.
