Mitt Romney admits he’ll need to raise taxes on the middle class

Any thinking person knew that Romney could not lower taxes on the rich and pay down the deficit without higher taxes on the middle class.

Whether you believe raising taxes on the middle class while lowering them on the rich is a different question.

On “60 Minutes” last night, Mitt Romney said it again. “I want to keep the current progressivity in the code. There should be no tax reduction for high income people.”
You’ve heard Romney say this — or some variant of it –dozens of times before. What’s changed since then is that Romney has admitted that his tax cuts, if they’re not going to add to the deficit, will have to increase taxes on people he defines as middle income and cut them on people he defines as high income.

Really Crabby! You could present a dozen links and if they all present the same story it is the same lie!

Strange Crabby! I heard Romney say he would cut taxes on middle income folks. So someone is lying and it is not me or my
ears! Following is part of the transcript as presented by Fox News.

You really need to broaden your horizons Crabby then perhaps you will not post lies from liars!

(on camera): What would the individual federal income tax rates be?

ROMNEY: Well, they would be the current rates less twenty percent. So the top rate, for instance, would go from thirty-five to twenty-eight. Middle rates would come down by twenty percent as well. All the rates come down. But unless people think there's going to be a huge reduction in the taxes they owe, that's really not the case because we're also going to limit deductions and exemptions, particularly for people at the high end. Because I want to keep the current progressivity in the code. There should be no tax reduction for high income people. What I would like to do is to get a tax reduction for middle-income families by eliminating the tax for middle-income families on interest, dividends, and capital gains.

PELLEY: The tax rate for everyone in your plan would go down.

ROMNEY: That's right.

PELLEY: But because you're going to limit exemptions and deductions, everybody's going to essentially be paying the same taxes.

ROMNEY: That's right. Middle-income people will probably see a little break, because there'll be no tax on their savings.

It would be nice to have savings.

The middle class has already shrunk under obama.

Yes, he has said that. He has been saying that all summer, but what he is saying is impossible. It is obviously an impossibility. A number of nonpartisan think tanks have shown the numbers of his plan are impossible.

On 60 minutes he admitted that the middle class will pay more.

You cannot keep a tax rate the same and then take away deductions and not have people pay more taxes. Just ain't possible.

The Tax Policy Center, the gold standard in nonpartisan tax wonkery, looked at the tax cut and these promises and declared the proposal “not mathematically possible.

How would you feel if your charitable donations could no longer be used as a deduction?

How would you feel if money paid on house loans was no longer deductible?

On Sunday’s “60 Minutes” Mitt Romney said it again. “I want to keep the current progressivity in the code. There should be no tax reduction for high income people.”

I added the bold.

So, if you want to believe that he can do the mathematically impossible, that is fine. But in the long run, if he is elected, it will cost you more in taxes.

Romney is counting on blindly loyal voters like you.

Romney has clearly calculated that there aren’t many people who read these analyses. If he just keeps saying his tax plan can cut taxes on the rich while cutting taxes on the middle class while not cutting taxes on the rich while not costing a dime, eventually, his version of this will come to be seen as the truth.

http://www.delawareonline.com/artic...middle-class?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|Home|s

And he is obviously counting on blind followers refusing to believe the truth even when it is shown to them.

Also, as Fox News is know as a very biased right-wing, supposedly conservative new outlet you do not expect them to publish news showing that in reality Romney will raise taxes on middle-income folk ... do you?

Crabby, Fox News published the transcript of the 60 Minutes interview. So you call them biased!

Do you have a shred of integrity Crabby? You published a lie so quit shuffling your feet and admit it. You publish nothing but trash talk from far left sources like the Huffington Post, The DC Post, The NY Times!

Yes, they did and I read it. However they provided no analysis and certainly did not want to show that Romney really is going to raise taxes on folks like you and me.

Old, show it is a lie.

Here is the first analysis that give a figure on how much more it will cost people like you and me.

The result, the Tax Policy Center concluded, is that middle class families would see a $2,000 tax hike, and that is based on the most generous assumptions, since Romney has yet to provide specific details of the plan.

I added the bold. Old, show that the Tax Policy Center, recognized by both parties as being nonpartisan is incorrect.

Old, watch the video on Romney's plan hurt the middle class? ... on the right side of the screen: http://video.search.yahoo.com/video...+Combative+in+'60+Minutes'+Interviews

That applies to the wealthy, not you and me, CTB, unless you are wealthy.

Romney's plan is to cut tax rates by 20% across the board. He is not keeping tax rates the same. He is lowering tax rates across the board. He is lowering tax rates across the board.

Closing up loopholes and deductions combined with the tax rate cuts could result in people paying the net amount in taxes when they file their returns.

How can you be so sure of this seeing as how Romney admits his plan will lower taxes on the rich.

Another lie CTB! Have you no shame. Just read the Transcript!

Everyone should understand that this entire discussion is useless other than demonstrating how the left will lie about Romney or any Republican for that matter.

A president cannot raise or lower taxes unless he assumes dictatorial powers as Obammy is doing and will do worse if reelected. Of course if Obammy is reelected everyone's taxes will likely go up because the Obammy tax cuts of 2010 {Now falsely called the Bush tax cuts.} will expire.

Only the House can originate tax laws.

You don't get it, Crab.

It's just like Obamacare: we're gonna have to elect him to find out what's really in his tax plan; so just like Pelosi did with Obamacare, I'm asking you to vote for him so we can find out.

Any thinking person knew that Romney could not lower taxes on the rich and pay down the deficit without higher taxes on the middle class.

Whether you believe raising taxes on the middle class while lowering them on the rich is a different question.

Romney proposes no tax increase on anyone making less than $100,000 and your sources admit it.

But then again, for the House or Senate to pass anything, they actually have to work more days than they take off. They also have to govern while in session instead of playing games.

What we need is a change in leadership in the WH, replace Harry Reid in the Senate, and yes, I would go for getting rid of John Boehner as Speaker, as he has been a big disappointment and it was under his "leadership" sequestration was born.

It's time to get the majority back, hoping that Republicans have learned the lessons from the past with the insertion of the Tea Party members.

Mitt Romney should come out very forceful in the debates about these lies the Democrats are using to scare voters, like this one, about him raising taxes on the Middle Class.
