Mitt Romney won't be the first.

Well, the news yesterday said 18% of Americans will not vote for a Mormon. The article said the 18% figure has not changed since 1967. Wow, that's over four decades, a lot of social change, and a lot of water under the bridge!

What I want to address is that if Romney is elected, he will not be the first non-mainstream Christian in the White house. In fact, the USA once had a non-Christian in the White House. THAT "heathen's" image is on the nickel, the two dollar bill, and city and county logos from Louisville to Denver, and beyond.

Yup. If one believes that believing Christ divine to be an essential part of Christianity, that President was NOT Christian. But, if one still insists he was Christian, one must still acknowledge he wouldn't have been very welcome, if at all, in most churches today that call themselves conservative.

So. Mitt Romney is a Mormon, which would be a first. In fact, this nation holds up a non-Christian as a secular saint.

Just had to mention this surprise I discovered in US history.
