Mizzou: We're not gonna change anything against Florida

Since Saturday, a narrative has developed: Mizzou would be a legitimate contender for the SEC East if James Franklin hadn’t got hurt. But without their senior quarterback, who’s out 3-5 weeks with a shoulder separation, the Tigers probably don’t have a chance.

Redshirt freshman Maty Mauk will make his first career start this Saturday in Columbia against No. 22 Florida, which brings a defense that ranks in the top five for a truckload of categories: scoring defense (4th), total defense (3rd), rushing defense (4th) and passing defense (3rd). The advanced stats back up those raw numbers — the Gators rank third in defense and have the nation’s top pass defense.

That’s not exactly the kind of opponent anyone would want a first-time starter to face, but Mizzou coaches said this week they’re not going to alter much with Mauk at quarterback instead of Franklin.

“We’re just gonna run our offense,” Pinkel said, via PowerMizzou. “He’s been doing it for a long time. When he went in the game, we didn’t cross things. We run what we run. That’s what we’re gonna do.”
Gonna be a great ballgame, either way. Two stellar defenses against a couple top 20 offenses. Who bends? Who breaks?

SEC Network at 11 AM Saturday.

Having been raised in that area I am an avid Florida fan. Florida will be a great team next year. This year they are good but need some work. They have also suffered a number of losses of players due to injuries. Taylor has stepped in for Driskel and has done very good. I think he is better than Driskel.

I believe Missouri will win. Florida needs some work on offense.

WOW! Mizzou. Mauk looked OK. I don't really want to look ahead to far but I wonder what a Mizzou vs. Alabama game might look like. We still have to play S. Carolina, Tennesse and A&M. Not going to be easy. Maybe Franklin will be back in time for any Bowl game.

We've got South Carolina, Tennessee and A&M at home, with Kentucky and Ole Miss sandwiched in between the Vols and Aggies on the road.

Could be interesting.

Boy, that's a tough road, any one of those teams others than Ky are capable of competing with the top teams in the league.
Yeah. LSU found that out this weekend. Ouch! That ought to get 'Bama's attention. And our coaching staff better make note of it for future reference, too.
