Okay, all I was referring to is particular situations where a recognised authority (school, parents etc) for whatever reason require a person to be clean shaven. In that circumstance a goatee may be a sign of rebellion.

Any facial hair is not in and of itself wrong. I guess you could say beards are amoral. (?)

MC, your post made me laugh. This Christmas I grew a beard and a couple of the men in my church also grew one. A young Bible student/preacher tried but it never quite made the grade. It caused a lot of laughs... him included.

Paul Sr has a very respectable moustache! [IMG]

More proof to the "fat guys with beards are ok preachers" theory.... :D

    I rest my case :D

Now from Spurgeon to ZZ Top (who else could (or would) do that huh? ;) )...I love the quote I came across a while ago by ZZ guitarist Billy Gibbons: We are still the same three guys basically playing the same three chords that have kept us going through three decades.

Maybe I could join "That little ol' band from Texas"....when I learn the next two chords [IMG] :D

I think facial hair is function of current styles. If you like a goatee, wear it. If you like a beard, wear it. I thought it would be obvious, but facial hair has nothing to do with one's personal beliefs or styles of worship.

Me? I have a flat top and a moustache.

"In Bible Times, you could look at a man's beard and tell who he was. If he had just the mustache and goatee, he was a worshipper of Bakus, or Baal, or Oritall. But if he had a full beard, it meant he was a worshipper of Jehovah God.

Of course, this does not stand true today. But this is what God is saying in the Bible: Namely, that their beard was a mark of their separation unto God and they were not to mar that mark. In Jeremiah chapter 9 we see that the beard is a sign of life, submission and separation unto God.

But the symbol is nothing unless it is backed up by the life. When these Hebrews who had full beards would say, "We're submitted unto God and separated unto Him," and yet they lived lives contrary to that sign, God judged them!

God judged them just like they were an idolator because that was the way they were acting. Jer. 9:25, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will punish all them which are circumcised with the uncircumcised.

Now that simply means, "Those who follow after the ways and customs of the heathen, who cut off their beards and let their hair grow long."

That's why the beard is not only a public testimony, but a private testimony."

I love the sources! Oh wait there are none. Those who observed the goatees on the Baal worshippers must be the same guys who saw the big bang.

The Law concerning facial hair has no effect when the reason for it (i.e. separation from pagan nations who could be identified by the shape of their beards) no longer obtains.

Of course, the Law is of no effect in Christ either.

While I myself do not do this. I would say hair (esp. on a man) if the first charactaristic many people make outward judgements on.

Who would have thought a hairy chin could encourage so much discussion. [IMG] It is a shame there are no smilies with beards... is that discrimination.

Since I'm part Asian, and cannot grow a full beard (but can grow a goatee), I must be a idolater by birthright.

It's not nice to make fun of goatees. Some older women just can't help it, things happen when one grows old. And it has nothing to do with modern worship. [IMG]

I am not really into Vegetales but...

There is a silly song with Larry about lips. There is a line about "kissing his aunt who had a beard... and it felt weired." [IMG]

I thought about mentioning it before but did not know if that was a step too far... [IMG] But seeing as someone else brought it up. [IMG]

So does my wife, but she's part Cherokee, and I think it's just her pagan roots coming through.

Do you mean just like those who said contemporary music was of the devil when after 1,000 years of no music that Isaac Watts introduced his music in the churches that are hymns today?
