What ever happened to modesty? Not in the world, but in the church. I would invite you to read the atricle at http://www.gerald285.com/view/?pageID=113067 and see what real modesty requires. And I would invite you to listen to a message by C. J. Mahaney called "The Soul of Modesty" at http://www.sermonaudio.com/sermoninfo.asp?SID=12908209345
What I see in the churches today is in great part the fault of the men. The husbands, fathers, and leaders have turned their back on the call to modesty and to the call to lead so we have, I am afraid, is immodesty running wild.

How does a woman discern the sometimes fine line between
proper dress and dressing to be the center of attention?

When your pants are cut so low that when you bend over you look like a plumber it crosses that fine line.

When you have a need to tug at the bottom of the skirt when you sit down so as not to give everyone a show it crosses that fine line.

I like how Mahaney address the modesty issue as a matter of the heart.

I read the adobe download entitled modesty heart check. Did anyone else see that?
Shorts, check them standing and sitting to make sure they aren't too short, skirts too, is a slit revealing too much staning or sitting, use pins or change, do the sunlight check on skirts before leaving home.

Theres more, and I think at least this part is worth the time to read.
I didn't listen to anything because it's late and Robert is sleeping.
Is there something there I'm missing, somewhere I can read it instead?

Yes, what that means is, if a person looks like they are being obedient to be modest(outward appearance), doesn't make it so. I've said this several times here when people have assumed by wearing headcoverings, and long dress to drag the ground means obedience. Obedience comes from the heart, if it isn't in the heart first, it isn't obedience.

Amen.

Here is thought I had just to toss it out there for what its worth.

Does modesty involve more than just the way we dress? Should not the way a christian conducts himself or herself in public before the world be done so with a heart of modesty?
In my mind, immodesty is an expression of rebellion against God because its overall purpose is to glorify self (draw attention to self; put self on display). If God´s glory is the driving passion of our lives as believers, how can we not be modest?

I think the links given, give a proper ballance in what dressing modestly is. Best I've seen ever seen given here anyway.

Why?

According to the word of God anything that uncovers the thigh is nakedness, and naked aint modest.
Never heard that. What verse?

This article has been published here before. It ended up hurting a female poster, she left and hasn't been back since. She was a godly woman with alot of class. This article demeans women, reduces them to body parts.

Whoever wrote it appears to have some serious lust issues.

Here's a portion of the article. I guess only the author can determine "what a true Christian woman looks like"

"When it comes to clothing let the woman who is of virtue been seen by her godly and modest attire and her actions be a witness to what a true Christian woman looks like."

My bad, found the link I over looked in the op, sorry.

Ok, the list given here differs from the pdf flyer I read yesterday.

they think they can tell women which bra to wear, now I draw the line on people knowing what under clothes I wear and making judgements on them.

I find it disturbing that a man would write some of what was written in the "gerald285" article.

I need to apologize for this statement. I was out of line.

If it's ok, I'll retract it. Sorry

Btw, does anyone know of that bible verse which says the thigh is to be covered?

Thought I would have to throw away some of my new bike shorts
Oh, that would be terrible!

Actually, I did do a search at Blue letter Bible for "thigh" and found no reference to clothing. You can enjoy your new shorts.

Idk, but I like to cover mine in a flour/egg mixture, with a little salt and pepper, just before tossing in the skillet for frying.
