You only have to act as if it's your god. The Bible says that no one can serve two masters, God and mammon. If you say you serve God but act as if you serve the world you worship a false god.

Which is why liberal democrats are not worshipping God.. .they vote their wallets instead of against Abortion.

Money over murder...

No wonder Obama wears a monkey god.

Has anyone bothered to read 1 Cor 8 lately? The object, idol, whatever, is a piece of wood, plastic, or glass. It has no power. If God is guiding your life, and your household's life, what power do these objects have in or out of your house? For that matter, put a buddah on your roof and give him a red flashing nose.

It is almost if some believe these objects in themselves have some kind of power. They have the power you attribute to them.

Is there something wrong with an object in a collection cabinet of that nature that was given as a gift from a friend overseas? No. I doubt the person displaying that object in a collection is walking by and worshiping it everyday. Dont forget to throw out your hat racks. There is a close resemblence to an ancient diety.

What is sad is no one seems to even know whether the object is being worshiped, and if it is not, dont understand the difference.

No, I do not believe in luck. Neither do I know if Obama considers this a god or if in fact he is carrying this around. What is your source? A liberal news outlet or some other slanted news outlet?

Did you not see the link I posted? It's from the Wash Post, plus Jerome posted a link with a photo of Obama holding this. Apparently, Obama very open about it.

I agree with you Dragonfly. It is a silly thread.

Hey, "much ado about nothing" .... good title for a play.

So why are reading it and posting a comment?

Did you read my post? That is not the point. The point is some have taken this thread way beyond that, to attibute power to objects themselves. Its called self fulfilling prophecy.

Listen to the advice of an Indian, quoted in the article, who was an Ambassador to the United States. I don't believe most of you who are so shrill read the article.

Your quote from the article is out of context. The Indians actually like it that Obama has a figurine of Hanuman. The remark about making a mountain out of a molehill has to do with Obama not calling India after being elected!

I don't think you read the whole article or you would not have got that wrong.

Also, the link that Jerome posted does say Obama keeps it as a lucky charm (along with other objects).

I keep travel pins. They are getting harder and harder to find. I have several from Buddhist temples in China and they show the Buddha. Does that make me a Buddhist? No!

Do I consider them good luck charms? No!

What is a "travel pin?"

Would you carry a tiny figure of Buddha? Many Buddhists do this; it means something to them. Hanuman is a very popular god in India.

There are some on this thread with way too much time on their hands.

Like who? I guess it could be you since you are reading the thread that you think is silly.

Take a walk, plant a garden, read a book, work a crossword puzzle, read more Scripture, do something that expands the mind.

I think this is very condescending. Why aren't you doing these things instead of telling us to do it?

Hey, now here is an idea. Two in this thread I will not mention could start a thread on the satanic influence of eating Lucky Charms for breakfast

Like who?

Do you know the 3 places in the Bible that say that idols are demons?

No one here is saying there is power in this object. In fact, I teach against that. However, I have encountered the power of Eastern religions and the New Age and it is very evil. It is not in objects but in beliefs and practices. This monkey god represents some of those beliefs and is an affront to Jesus Christ. Even if one is not worshiping it, why have it at all? It represents the worship of a false god by millions of people. Hanuman is very popular in India and to some in the New Age.

It is almost if some believe these objects in themselves have some kind of power. They have the power you attribute to them.

No again. I don't think anyone here believes there is power in this figurine. That is not the point.

Yes, if you read 1 Cor 8, you would see Paul said those who worship idols are worshiping demons. Those who worship such are dabbling with powers of darkness. Such a person could not be saved. However, your posts and others go way beyond this, giving these objects fear when no worship is going on.

As some one from Asia, and idol worship is common, I would say, yes, there is demonic power in these objects, whether the bearer believes it or not.

But even if you disagree with me, this is what the Bible says regarding this:

1 Corinthians 10:19-21 What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing? But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.

Yes, food being offered to idols is a very practical lesson on what to do for us in Singapore, you know, because this kind of thing really happens. Is it the same for you? Would you take the Word of God and apply it? What if you go to a friend's house when they are serving food that you know not if the food had been offered to an idol before hand? (But there is a huge idol sitting in the living room of the house?)

There is a power behind these idols and that is the devils'. From what I gather from reading here, I find many "western" (as opposed to "eastern or asian") posters dismiss these as something akin to "hocus pocus" . THat's ignorance to the spiritual battle that is raging in the heavenlies and the Enemy can have free discourse because of this ignorance.

blessings and peace to you.

I'll say this one more time. I do not support abortion. Neither have I seen the Republican party do anything about it. Christians are in the Republican's back pockets because all the Republican's have to do is mouth the standard line to get the so-called evangelical Christian vote. Since I also do not support the murder of innocent women and children following the Republican invasion of Iraq and I believe Obama will stop it, I supported him.

I am not posting to make people fearful; I posted this because it's an item of interest and I think people should know about it. I see threads on a lot less significant topics all over the BB all the time.

Even if one is not worshiping such an idol, carrying it around as a good luck charm gives the idea that 1) there is a good power in the object and 2) minimizes the actual worship of this god that does go on.

I was surprised that Obama has this monkey god figurine and carries it around.

Read Chapter 8 of the same book.

Yes, but it does mean that without the element of worship, it is just a piece of wood.

I can appreciate your point but I started this thread and the topic is not whether this figure is just a piece of wood or whether it has power. The topic is why is a Christian carrying around a good luck charm in the form of a Hindu god?
