Yeah I found it. Thanks. Don't suppose you've read the Quran yourself by any chance?

Has anyone here read it? Or have a copy they can quote some of these verses that call for violence and terrorism?

Will be glad to. But I wnat to know the motive for your question. Is it becuase you wish to downplay the threat by terrorists? Do you want to do as RP does and suggest that it isnt the quran that drives these attacks but our existance in their region?

I am not going to be lead into a debate I do not know the motives behind. Although considering the source I am quite suspicious.

In all honesty Rev I'm not here in this thread looking for a debate with any of you I just wanted to know if Bible Boy could validate his statement on his own. And if the rest of you could provide anything but "he says she says". At this point it's looking kinda doubtful. But who knows tomorrow is a new day and maybe things will change.

I responded to you in the manner in which I did because according the Baptist Board policy we are not allowed to post direct quotations from the Quran here. I gave you a reference to a book written by a former Muslim who is now a Southern Baptist Seminary Professor and directed you to check out his references to the Quran in an English translation for yourself. You do not have to buy the book. I am sure you can find it in a library somewhere. And yes I have read the Quran for myself.

This thread is about Obama's ignorance not your's. I'm not convinced that Islam teaches Muslims to be violent or use terrorist acts. I'm asking questions and seeking answers. Try it sometime you might surprise yourself and learn something.

Okay I can understand that. How about just giving me some verses to look at for myself? You know like "Whatever 20:14". That wouldn't be breaking any rules would it?

I'm sure I can find a translation at the book store. Of course I'll have to find one homeland security hasn't got staked out. Libraries have to report suspicious incidents like a blonde haired green eyed American male reading the Quran in a public place if I'm not mistaken and I don't believe I am. I'll gladly provide links if you really need em.

In other words it may take some time for me to find em and read em.

If you are not convinced now, you never will be.

Like Christianity, Islam is divided in its beliefs. Just as some Christians pick and choose which verses to follow, so do Muslims. Not all Muslims believe the Quran's teachings regarding non-believers.

Muslims who do believe this will follow the fatwahs demanding that they "kill them wherever", and will do so. Those are terrorists. To state that Islam contains no terrorists is invalid, just as saying all Christians love their fellow man.

I haven't actually read the Quran word for word but in my studies of Muslim religion I learned the difference with the extremist is their interpretation of scripture. Where Mohammad calls for war, most Muslims believe he was speaking to his day and time. I believe the 7th century. The extremist believe he is referring to all days and all times.

If this is an attempt to convince me it's not very convincing. It looks like you and I are more in agreement than not because you don't seem to convinced either.

BTW, who has stated that Islam contains no terrorists?

So you're saying the Quran doesn't teach muslims to use violence and terrorist acts right? But some believe it does. And the post by Not_hard_to_find seems to be saying the same thing...I think.

That's what I'm thinking also. Hey is this "consensus"?

Oh, I am convinced that the Quran does call for death in some instances. An example from this morning's news: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26677719/

My apologies if I misinterpreted your defense/questioning posts that appeared to so state.

Regrettably, you've misinterpreted my post. There are words in the Quran that call for violence and terrorist acts. I do call that teaching Muslims to use violence and terrorist acts. Some Muslims use them to justify violent acts of terrorism. Others ignore them.

They are in the Quran -- it was my impression from your posts that you did not know that -- perhaps you could not locate them?

My own bible has passages that call for violence and even genocide against others. But we believers all know from our study of the whole book that it doesn't teach us to use violence and genocide.

From your post...

"Some Muslims use them to justify violent acts of terrorism. Others ignore them."

Would it be another misinterpretation to say the above statement looks as though we're in agreement on this? What I'm saying is that to make the claim that the Quran "teaches muslims to be violent and use terrorist acts" as was done at the start of this thread by those who apparently are not qualified as scholars of Islam or the Quran is kind of like spreading unfounded rumors.

Just for the record...I am a born Christian believer who accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal savior on the evening of 2/15/75 and believe Islam to be a false religion. That doesn't mean I have to automatically assume all Islamists are out to get me or that they are all terrorists bent on the destruction of western society.
