Well, the plot thickens...I guess...

They won't expel him OR suspend him. TODAY'S STORY

The principal of the school, Jimmy Meadows, had recommended expulsion (and has refused to comment since)...but the school board, under nationwide pressure, declined to act.

So, the kid served a 10-day suspension, received 2 F's, and his family incurred about $2,500 in legal costs.

He (the kid) did say he would do the same thing again, if he had to do it over (turn in the knife).

Now, hopefully the school board will fire Mr. Meadows for acute cranial rectitis, and we can move on...

Why would he recieve two Fs ? He should have had the chance to get his work done. I don't agree with that.

And I never agreed with the expulsion, and everyone should give me a high five for saying he wouldn't be expelled.

THe article isn't real clear on the F's...I THINK what they mean is that he currently has F's but will be allowed to make up the course work. (The F's will stick only if he doesn't make it up). I'm pretty sure that's what they meant (I'm a former newspaper guy...I hate unclear writing!)

How many of us have grabbed our coats in a rush on the way out the door and upon arriving somewhere realized we had the spouses house keys?

The district does not have a zero-tolerance policy regarding knives, but Principal Jimmy Meadows saw the situation as serious enough to warrant punishment.

What aren't we being told here?

They don't have a Zero Tolerance...

They acknowledge he did the right thing...

Yet, they make an example of him????

My first thought is you are crazy to trust inmates, especially gangbangers. Perhaps that guy who turns in a razor he "forgot" is just playing you.

I dont trust any of them. But if one comes to me before ariving on the unit and gives me a weapon. Says here I dont want to take this on the block. I will take it. I will then look for weapons that were not turned in.

How is he playing me if he turns it in. He gets nothing out of it. I am well aware of inmate games. I have not heard of the here take my weapon game. What is the pay off?

My second thought, inmates don't "forget" what's in their pockets.

They absolutly do. The ones that turn it in when returning do. The ones that do not turn it in have brought it on purpose.

My third thought, if inmates are returning from jobs with tools in their pockets, somebody is dropping the ball by not inventorying what they are given, and not securing them after the work day.

Ya the officers at the shop are dropping the ball technicly. 6000 some inmates moving back and forth from work all day on different shifts, tool inventory a few times a day. A tool could be missing for a few hours before it is noticed. Then the big search is on. A razor blade on the other hand can be missing with-out notice.

To sum it all up, it doesn't sound, to me, like a well run place.

For all its problems it we have a very good record compaired to other state prisons. Like I say 6000+ inmates in all levels of custody.

And I know all about rewarding good behavior. I just don't consider breaking rules good behavior.

The bad behavour was a mistake and the positive behaviour was very positive. I guess he should have just attempted to conceal the knife all day. If he gets caught then he still gets punished. But if he does not get caught, he gets away with it. Is that the lesson.

No, there should have been no punishment whatever considered for this kid. He did well. If folks here can't discern the difference between well doers and evil doers, is it any wonder that our so-called educators can't?

It was pure lunacy. So is a three-page limit...
