I would like a definition of "draining the swamp", please. It seems that is a moving target. What do you mean by draining the swamp?

First it was supposed to be getting rid of the highly paid lobbyists and entrenched bureaucrats.
Then it was getting the lifelong politicians out of Washington.
Then it meant getting rid of anyone that wants government to expand its influence over your life.
Now it means....what?

Is it smart to say and tweet things that will cause the stock market to gyrate and roil with volatility?

Lol...I think it's REALLY smart to provoke him to tweet with the accusatory article, but warn your buddies beforehand that the article is coming so they can get out in time...look at your graph.

Not sure if that case could be made, by telegraphing to some select few that you were going to write an article, that is.

I suspect Trump got played like a banjo string is what I'm saying. He reacted precisely as they anticipated. Smart.

Trump's statement on Amazon.

Donald J. Trump‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump
I have stated my concerns with Amazon long before the Election. Unlike others, they pay little or no taxes to state & local governments, use our Postal System as their Delivery Boy (causing tremendous loss to the U.S.), and are putting many thousands of retailers out of business!

Trump has consistently been concerned about fairness. And I have no problem with him leveling the playing field for everyone. They shouldn't get advantages no one else can get.

I'm sure this falls in there some where:

Trump in May 2016:
"This [The Washington Post] is owned as a toy by Jeff Bezos who controls Amazon," Trump told Hannity. "Amazon is getting away with murder tax-wise. He's using the Washington Post for power so that the politicians in Washington don't tax Amazon like they should be taxed." ..."

It's WHY folks believed in and voted for Trump, he KNOWS these sorts of things, AND he's educating the electorate by uncovering the corruption and manipulative practices of the media. I know a whoooole lot of folks whose eyes are now opened to the deceitfulness of the mainstream media since his election.

I love it! History in the making!

I'm just curious why people are upset about this. It's about fairness. Even our liberal friends should be onboard.

Help me out here--are you saying it is desirable for the President of the United States to let his personal spats with the press and individuals roil the stock market, interfere with free trade, and generally insert his personality into the free market causing millions of people to lose billions of dollars? Is that a smart thing to do?
No, Looks like he hasn't learned from the failures of previous administrations.

Trump does not have a personal spat with Amazon or anyone else. He has a spat with unfairness that hurts the country. Amazon just happens to be in that category.

I thought Republicans were against new taxes. Oh well...

This is hilarious. You're actually fighting for Amazon to be exempt from taxes everyone else has to pay. Pretense gone.

And I'd bet dollars to donuts if Amazon was a conservative company you'd be out for blood.

What taxes is Amazon illegally not paying?

Didn't Candidate Trump (who has never voluntarily released his own tax information), claim in the first Presidential debate that using the tax laws in a way that kept him from paying taxes made him "smart?"

I wish you'd read carefully before you post.

Yes, and he has no problem with Amazon using every loophole they have available. I'm sure Amazon is paying all that's legally due. But Trump also wants to close loophole advantages that help some companies over others. What is so hard about this? Why do liberals hate fairness all of the sudden?

This whole Amazon spat thing is just a liberal creation. Amazon is owned by a liberal, and therefore needs to be protected.

So we have established that Amazon has done nothing wrong. That's outstanding.

But Trump also wants to close loophole advantages that help some companies over others.
I do too. So why didn't Trump and the Republicans do this in their tax bill? Why does, for instance, General Electric, International Paper, Priceline.com, PG&E, and a number of other companies, not only not pay taxes, but get federal rebates?

I'd love to stop that too. But he's specifically calling out Amazon because he doesn't like them, probably because Bezos owns the Washington Post.

They don't get advantages in federal taxes that are not available to any other company that can afford to structure themselves in certain ways.

What is so hard about this? Why do liberals hate fairness all of the sudden?
I don't think liberals hate fairness at all. As a non-liberal, I think it is appalling that corporations and wealthy individuals can get away without paying their fair share.

Why did you give Candidate Trump a pass on not paying his taxes? And, having done that, how can you credibly muster up outrage against Amazon?

Spoken like a true liberal. You'd be really outraged at ancient Israel's tax policy. 10% across the board. And that's straight from God.
