Paris attacks: 60 reported killed, hostage situation ongoing

(CNN)[Latest developments, posted at 5:38 p.m. ET]

-- At least 60 people have died in the attacks, CNN affiliate BFMTV reported.

-- Counterterrorism officials around the United States have convened secure conference calls to try to gather information and to assess whether there is any indication of threats in the U.S, according to two U.S. counterterrorism officials. There is nothing to indicate any threat to U.S. cities so far. Immediate suspicion for the events in Paris falls to so-called returnees -- people who have traveled to Syria and Iraq and have returned, the officials said.

I am just sickened by this. Now Paris is closing their borders. I think this would've been a better idea to close them BEFORE something like this happened, but are any other countries going to learn? I highly doubt it. They have said that ISIS is hash-tagging Parisonfire and also romeonfire and washingtononfire....HELLO...!! ISIS has been so active the last couple weeks and no one seems to care until it's too late (no one who has the power to prevent these things)

I was speaking to a German fellow about three weeks ago. I asked him if he is concerned about the ramifications of tens of thousands of people entering his country --many being healthy single men. He said his country is rich and it was about time to give back.

Significant history is happening before our eyes. Europe's culture --languages, customs --way of life, will be swept away in due course.

ISIS has to be # 1 on our radar. But many of its adherents are already embedded in a lot of nations.

It was always just a matter of time. Most of Europe is a powder keg now, thanks to Angela. Obama just said this morning that ISIS was contained - OOPS!!!

Mitterand shut the borders, but the horses all escaped. I'm beginning to think that the influx of Muslims into Europe will lead to civil wars and maybe President LePen and a return to nationalism.

Obama said he wants to bring the terrorists to justice. I say no. They must be killed.

I have just heard the news today. There are already around 100 people confirmed to be dead. This is really such a terrible and tragic event. I wonder when would the terrorism end. This just frustrates me even more.

Has anyone claimed responsibility?

I am wondering why people think that ISIS has to come into country's the "refugee" route? from what I've seen, they are a little bit more sophisticated than that.

The story says we still don't know who is responsible. SO why is the thread titled MUSLIM rampage in Paris? Where are the folks claiming we ought to reserve judgment until we get the rest of the details?
