My computer is mad at me - I need help!

On a word document, I use the page number no longer shows up.
Following some instructions - it tells me to click on "insert" (that works) then I am to click on "page number) but it is gray and will not click on
In addition "header & footer" is grey and will not click on.

There should be a tab or a section for headers and footers. It should automatically open the footer. But it seems like that is what you are saying.
Well if that doesn’t work, are you using a subscription service from Microsoft 365? Are you logged in?

Seems like a trial period is up kind of thing.

When all else fails, there are always pens. They might not have ink, there might be pencils and no sharpeners nearby.
Do you feel like you are back in college and your paper is due in less than half an hour?

I have used a pen when I have forgotten to add them and I don’t want to reprint.

Nope, not a trial - my other word doc are just fine (showing page numbers - this particular doc - has over 100 pages - so I need to know page #'s.

Open office is free and features are not restricted. It is not Word but after you figure out the learning curve, you should not be able to tell the difference when it comes out of the printer.

Are you signed in to Microsoft in that window, or do you own a product key for the program?

Have you done anything with your document in connection with Outlook? It is strange but they have compatibility issues.

Are you using Word in your web browser or is it a Word application on your computer?

If it is something that didn’t originate from your computer, it could also be locked for editing. If that is the case, there should be a notification below the toolbar that asks you if you want to edit the file and do you trust it.

not sure what I did, but I got pg #'s back -not the way it was - but doable
