My real problem with the Ryan choice

The topic is about Romney's selection as his running mate ... what we like or do not like about him. You are totally off topic. Try being on topic and saying what you like or do not like about him.

Has a hollow ring coming from you. You attempt to derail every topic that puts Obama in a bad light.

Clean your own house before you lecture others on how to clean theirs.

I will say that Ryan represents Romney's best choice, if he wants a chance to hold onto Congress at the mid-terms.

Any chance of getting back to the topic?

Reading the posts following this one where you ask the question, I would have to say, no it will not get back on the topic of the OP.

But having said that I will try to head back that direction. After reading a number of articles it is apparent that Romney and Ryan have not agreed on a whole lot of issues in the past. So, whose agenda will they follow. Isn't this a problem for Romney, having a VP who he has not agreed with in the past?

Who will compromise Romney or Ryan?

As Romney has been evasive on what he really will do and Ryan has been quite specific on what he would like it appears Romney may be in danger of running for president while being second in the media coverage of ideas. That does not bode well for him IMHO.[/

Your deep concern for the Republican ticket is heart rending :tear::tear: and hypocritical!:laugh:

Also, isn't it funny to see Ann Rand so hated by the same folks who have no problem with Obama's continued corporate cronyism ?

There are declared atheists and practicing atheists. Ayn Rand was a declared atheist. It appears to me that Obama is a practicing atheist. The following Scripture defines Obama perfectly:

Proverbs 8:16-10
16. These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17. A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18. An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19. A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

1. Obama is arrogant!
2. Obama is a liar!
3. Obama is a facilitator of the slaughter of the unborn!
4. Obama has denied American exceptionalism and apologized to all who would listen!
5. Obama has moved this country in the direction of economic dictatorship!
6. Obama has lied repeatedly about those who disagree with him!
7. Obama promised a new tone in DC but his opening remarks to the opposition was "We won you lost!"

Looking back through this thread, I see C.T.Boy was the first to bring up a disagreement with Ayn Rand. It seems, if the originator of the O/P was concerned about staying on topic, that would have been the proper time to bring it back. But instead, he chose to engage in it. It seems one sided to let one person get away with it, but admonish others.

Ryan is a great choice. Not only is he right about the economy but he is known for his focus on it and it has now forced Obama to stay on task and talk about the real issue of this campaign which is Obama's miserable record.

You are correct and I apologise. They was no intent to be one-sided, I simply didn't see the direction my response to CTB would take the thread until later. My initial response was intended to be a defence of my position that Rep Ryan is too good to be wasted as a vice-president.

Please forgive me.

That is why I am sad he is going to disappear into obscurity either as 'former vice-president' or 'losing vice-presidential candidate.' Neither of these titles has had much success and he certainly can't do anything important as vice-president.

Once again the GOP have found a way to get rid of a potential to make real change.

Rep Ryan is now a good man wasted.

Is it till late to switch places on the ticket :)?

Each person and each situation is different. It's rare if not unique for a powerful member of the House to be chosen as a VP candidate. Just the fact that you are talking about a House member as a possible future president is probably a first for you. Ryan is very intelligent, knowledgeable, articulate and charismatic. He's not Walter Mondale or Dan Quayle, he's a force to be reckoned with and everyone knows it. If Romney/Ryan loses, he'll still be a very prominent member of the House and still have a future as a candidate for National office. If they win, and Romney has a successful 2 term presidency and is still popular in 2020, Ryan will be in a very strong position to succeed him. In either case, everything he has going for him transcends any past patterns regarding VP candidates. In the just concluded Olympics, Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps both accomplished things no one else had ever done. People who are special enough can do that, and I strongly suspect Ryan will demonstrate that same quality as a politician.

That's fine, and perhaps this will work, but history proves otherwise. I would have been much happier if Ryan had stayed in the House and held either Obama or Romney's feet to the fire and made a stab in '16 or '20 accordingly. Politics is not the same as sports. There are factors beside physique and a stopwatch at play here. Phelps and Bolt did not have someone on the track or in the pool dragging them backwards.

I think Ryan's message is so dramatic that neither party wants to deal with it. Romney's choice of Ryan allows the GOP to sound good, throw some scraps to the right, and not make any real substantial changes.

The best hope for a Ryan future is a Obama win. That way he can prove himself as a man who can affect change instead of sitting in the warm bucket of, well, you know.

He was just named on Saturday. You're jumping the gun.

I think we have to take history into consideration. Former vice-presidents (or to some extent losing vice presidential candidates) have not made much of a mark on US history since the earliest days.

It is hard to see history changing much in the current climate.

I do not see how my response was off the OP. The thread is talking about our real concern about Ryan. My real concern is his philosophy based on Ayn Rand. I am not responsible for how others respond.

Yours is that VP's disappear in history. You are correct, history is on your side on this one.

It seems to me that anyone with a concern about Ryan can bring it up in the thread. Is this correct in your opinion?

I would agree - I think the problem was my poor choice in bringing up the topic of church vs state responsibility. That is what started the thread off topic.

The title is not 'my,' as in C4k's problem with the Ryan choice, but 'my' as in any poster's problem with the choice.

I have no idea how you came to this conclusion. And quite frankly it is a little weird.

Check out the history of former vice-presidents. It is kind of weird how those in such a supposedly high office generally disappear from importance once they are gone. It would seem natural to think it would be a road to success, but it has not been.

The chances of his future success after being a vice-president are not great, History bears me out.

Ok but it is kind of conspiracy theorist like to suggest that the GOP plans this out.
