This has been a bad night for the KJVO. Now, if you don't understand, it is because you are lost. Oooo, I think I just busted another rib! [IMG]

So now, the KJV is for children, is that it? Well, Paul said that when he was a child, he spoke like a child. Once he became a man, he spoke as one.

Therefore, if you want to be like Paul, get yourself a NKJV, NASB, or ESV, the word of God for English speaking adults.

    Bah!!!!

Neal4christ, this is so childish behaviour, you asked and you get, what better than to receive some bibleverses to help your wife out?

I think it was not the spirit that gave out the message, but the spirit that received the message was wrong. You just twisted it to make him look bad. Shame on you!

Since you now stated you did not wanted any advice I will refrain myself from it for this topic. I will just tell you about a similar situation with my wife.

For both my wife and I, english is a third language, papiamento is our native language, dutch is our official language, and english is a language that we start learning at school at the age of ± 10 (??? not sure about this, too long time ago)

Firt of all, when we were looking for a church on the island of Aruba, we went to several churches. Most of them papiamento speaking churches, not baptist though. Finally we found out about a small english speaking Baptist church and we decided to give it a try inspite of the service being given in english. That is where we discoverd that people that worship God in Spirit and in Truth still existed.

My wife had just the same problems as your wife has. But she stayed! And she prayed, and she kept coming and reading her bible, when sometimes there were words that she did not understand, she asked. And yes we applied James 1:5 in our life too.

My wife now at the time loves the King James Bible, it is still difficult sometimes but she wont changed it to no other bible. We both were exited the day we heard about a new PAPIAMENTO translation, finally we thought, a good bible in our own language, but when it was released, we were soon dissapointed because of the many versed and words that were being changed or left out. It had no power.

My wife and I are convinced that The King James Bible is the perfect preserved copy of the Word of God. We cannot not proof it! We just know it! We are convinced!

If you are not, that is your opinion, go ahead and read bibles which in most cases have the same changes as the Jehova Witness bible...who am I to tell you which to believe?

We were convinced of God, so let God convince you.
But when I read that people referring to King James Bible believers believe a lie straight out of hell...that is where I really wonder, who are they to tell me I believe a lie straight out of hell?????

Your last posting where you attacked a brother (yes we all are brothers if we accepted Jesus) just becaus he approached you with Gods word instead of his own words, convinced me that you are not willing to give this a fair try. You are just convinced yourself that King James Bible believers are wrong, and trow all these believers (though many have variations on how they believe the KJB) on a big pile. And the only reason you come to these discussions is to look for flaws and faults in someone reasoning so you can attack.

Give me a break. KJVOs don't attack other by throwing out verses that say to ask for wisdom, the Spirit leads, only the spiritual understand, and I am ignorant. And I am the one attacking? First off, none of these verses refer to Elizabethan English.

Second, I find it insulting that KJVOs are so self-righteous as to judge others so harshly. Because someone reads Elizabethan English they have more faith or more of the Spirit? Actually, the best advice was to get a good modern version. Where is the fruit of the Spirit in many of the KJVO posters here? Usually they put up a verse that they are using to put down someone and maybe say one rude line and run.

I cannot believe that there are people who want everyone to learn 17th century English in order to read God's Word. Hey, I think it is beautiful. I love reading the KJV. But not everyone can! Why is that so hard to get? All of these things KJVOs say on this forum (not just this thread) are insulting personally because they are directly judging my wife. She can't understand the KJV. But guess what??? It has nothing to do with spirituality or faith!! I think that is something that many throw up to make themselves feel better. Many down in the other religions forum talk of how the Catholic Church kept God's Word from the common man. Well, we have that going on today, in the form of King James Onlyism. What a sad thing to create a language barrier with many people by insisting that they have to use the KJV to "be right" with God. Even more tragic and disgusting is implying to a person who doesn't understand the KJV that they are less spiritual or don't have enough faith. "Just pray and God will show it to you." Meanwhile, you make that poor person feel like a fool and that there is something wrong with their spiritual walk because they don't understand 17th century Elizabethan English. KJVOs should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. [IMG]

No wonder so many are turned off to Christianity because they think that Christians are simply self-righteous, holier than thou, hypocrites. When we keep tacking on all these extra things to the gospel, I don't blame them.

Hey, I would love to have discussions on various translations and translation issues. But usually when one is started a KJVO busts in and throws up a couple of verses meant to insult and starts attacking MVs and turns the discussion downhill. I would love to not have to talk about the KJVO issue. It is an absolute waste of time. It is not even worth being an issue. But when people spread lies and attack the faith of others and try to make them look like they are heretics, you better believe I am going to stand up for the truth. There is no sense for any of that. Usually, though, these folks are so legalistic that they look more like the Pharisees than Jesus. [IMG]

The following is a reply to a discussing concerning the reading level of the KJV. Every book written can and usually is categorized in a reading level. From Dr. Seuss to Shakespeare. One doesn’t give a Shakespeare novel to a 5th grader to read and report on,(which I’m sure some could read and understand remarkably) just as it would be silly to do the same with Dr. Seuss with a 12th grader. (Although a few probably couldn’t even understand that)

I’m not supporting the NIV or any another version. I believe the other versions have weakened scripture as well as omitted verses. I recommend to anyone having difficulty in reading the KJV to ask the Holy Sprit to open ones mind and eyes and allow the Holy Sprit to reveal Himself to you through the KJV. Which I do before I begin any Bible study.

Dr. Arthur Farstad, executive editor of the NKJV New Testament discusses this very subject in his book “The NKJV in the Great Tradition.” Dr. Farstad and his staff showed as would be expected that the KJV was more difficult to understand than modern translation. The study concluded that the KJV required a 12th grade reading level, while the NSAB was at 11, the RSV 10.4, the TLB 8.3, NKJV 8 and the NIV 7.8.

The language used in the KJV is 400 years old. With words as “chambering”, “ceiled”, “clouted upon their feet”, “cotes”, “suretiship” etc.. it’s a wonder those w/ a 7th grade education can understand the KJV at all.

Kenneth Baker the general editor of the NIV has stated that he receives numerous testimonial letters from those who were brought to Christ through reading the NIV. In addition, sales of the KJV are 350 million over a 400-year period, while the NIV sales are at 100 million in just 15 years.

Again I don’t in no way support the NIV or RSV etc. if one feels that Christ is revealed on a more personal level by reading the NIV, then that’s awesome.

Better?? It would be better to receive some verses that actually deal with teh subject. The verses given had nothing to do with teh difficulty of understanding the language of the text. If you had a Spanish Bible (and couldn't read Spanish), would you resort to those verses and claim that your inability to understand is based on spiritual ignorance?? Can you not see how the twisting of God's word is an abomination to him by misusing his text?? The word of God is worth more than these silly answers given here.

The bottom line answer to Neal (which he already knows), is get a Bible written in the common language.

No one, but you and your ilk here sure try to tell us what to believe. You admit above that you are convinced without proof. So what you have is an opinion. It is fine for you to have an opinion, but you have no right to impose your unproven opinion on the majority of us who love God and serve him by using a version in our own language. The changes were made to the KJV. Those should trouble you. It will always make me wonder why it doesn't.

But at least be consistent with your admission that all you have is an unfounded opinion and quit questioning the spirituality of those who disagree with you.

The verses were given.Strange though, for people who want verses for every little thing that comes along, the Scripture is now an offence.Looks like Hebrews 4:12-13 is true!

Who cares what you believe! John 16:13 says He will guide us in all truth;that is,the ones who are willing.

With all due respect to Dr. Farstad, I'll bet they did not consult a certified reading expert in their estimations. I deal with text material all the time that is graded (by professionals) to 9th or 10th grade level, and it is 'way less complicated to read than NKJV.

So in your expert opinion what reading level is the KJV, NKJV, NASB, RSV and the TLB compared to?

But none of those had anything to do with what translation one uses. Those verses deal with some different. The one who gave them twisted them to try to fit them into a position that is not biblical. Heb 4:12-13 certainly is true. It is a shame that you will not use the sharp sword properly. Scripture is not an offense to us. It is our guide. That is why we keep asking you to use it to prove your position. Strange that the side so admamant that we are unscriptural have no Scripture to prove that.

"What a wicked web we weave, when we practice to deceive"

This thread was initaited as the all too common practice to ensnare those who stand on the KJB, inviting the wrath and displeasure of those who try to justify their "more easily understood" versions. Now isn't this "christian" behaviour for all the world to see?

Who cares what you believe! John 16:13 says He will guide us in all truth;that is,the ones who are willing. </font>[/QUOTE]You apparently care because you keep telling me I need to change. You are right however, in that what we believe is not really the issue. What Scripture says is the issue. Yet you refuse to use Scripture to substantiate your belief. That raises huge red flags for us who are committed to Scripture as the final authority. John 16:13 does not deal with texts and translations. It deals with truth. Therefore we know that it has nothing to do with teh KJV issue.

Another question you have never dealt with is this work of the Spirit. When the Spirit convinces me of one position and you say he convinces you of another, is the Spirit contradictory with different people?? How do you reconcile contradictory Spirit leading?

The reality is you can't. The Holy Spirit never convinced you of that position. You were convinced by men. The Holy Spirit convinces us of the message of Scripture, not the particular translation we should be using.

I own a KJV / Amplified Parallel Bible. That could be a solution for your wife. You have the beautiful KJV text and the Amplified text which sometimes uses easier wording. And it helps you to get the deep meaning of many words, too.

    Be blessed.

Do not worry about what anyone else says. Do what you have to do in order to understand what the scriptures are saying.

This is what I do now. First, I pray for guidance. Then I will read the passage of the day in my KJV. If I have trouble understanding it, then I read it in my NLT, which is very easy to understand. Then I will read the KJV again. By doing this, I have found that I can understand the KJV much, much better and have come to appreciate it more.

I have found this way works for me, and is giving me more and more appreciation for God's Word. It may work for your wife, too! Give it a try.

Before this thread dies at the hand of a moderator, I just thought I'd add that anyone who speaks English should learn to read the KJV. It is necessary because many, if not most, pulpits still use the KJV, and most homes have a KJV. It is also easy to memorize (although this is subjective, I suppose).

Many of our hymns are written in the "Elizabethan" English, and Shakespeare is much more difficult to understand than the KJV. I think once a person gets past the "intimidation" factor, the KJV is a quite easy read (this coming from someone who was saved with an NIV). I know a preacher who doesn't think he is smart enough to use the KJV. That's the "intimidation" factor again.
