As I watched the life of the rebellious of the 60's and 70's there also was the bringing in of the mysticism.
The chasing after Tibetan guru seems strange now, but the Dalia Lama (spelling?) was headline news at times.
The reason that I bring this to the attention of the Bible and Theology forum is to inquire of others.
Imo, there is a return by the 21st century church to forms and practices associated with mysticism.
The practice of a trance like opening of the mind, the mindlessness of repetition (not just in the music), the desire for a "deeper" experience or a mountain top "illumination," .... all are pat of the mysticism I saw decades ago in the world.
The Scriptures speak very clearly concerning meditation being right and good.
But such Scripture reading, prayer and meditation are not done by trance or by repetition, nor by seeking some deeper illumination, but by carefully studying and pondering possible applications to one's personal life and choices
. That is true meditation - the other is mysticism.
Music and preaching that seeks to in-trance, to bring a mindlessness through repetition, and desiring for some deeper illumination is also engaging in mysticism rather than Scripture and exalting God.
Is there evidence that you see in this age of this happening, or is it my own failure to understand what I view?
What are your own thoughts.
You will notice that I provided no Scriptures, but that isn't particularly a part of this thread.
This is on practices that I have seen and what may be the demonic forces again attempting to distract and allure the flock from the Scriptural truths.
