Name change

Don't know how many, if any will be interested but last week or so Western Baptist College (Salem, OR) decided on a name change. They are now called Corban (dedicated to God).

They were Western Baptist Bible College a few years back then to Western Baptist College, mostly known as Western.

They used to be GARBC approved, but don't know if that is true any longer.

They did the change for "marketing reasons" and to draw from "other denominations" -- sounds like get more students to get more money to me, but then what do I know :p

You're kidding, right? I saw the same downward spiral with Cornerstone.

But rename it "Corban"? That is truly odd . .

Honest!, I only report the news :)

Corban was to tell everyone that all they do is dedicated to God, according to their comments.

Personally the only thing that came to my mind was the Jews "dedicating all to god" so they didn't have to take care of their responsibilities :) but then I'm always negative :)

Nope- There are no more GARBC approved agencies. They did away with the approval system several years ago in favor of a "partnering system." That was dissolved this last year, so there are now no external institutions linked with the GARBC.

The reasoning behind this step was good- very good- but the motivation and timing was questionable, IMHO. It seemed as if they did it so they wouldn't have to directly address the issues surrounding issues like Western and Cedarville partnering with the SBC, for example.

From what I know the board of Western/corban was made up of mostly CBA pastors a number of years ago so the link was rather dubious at best anyway :-(

They were working closely with Western Seminary in Portland (CBA) as well with student transfers etc.

Western was weak back in the late 1970s when I took a church that supported it. We voted in 1979 to drop support of Western. I am not suprized that this school like Cornerstone has taken the low road. Like the proverbial fish illustration...a dead fish can go downstream, only a living one can go against the current of the day. But "Corban".....duh!
