==Well it matters in the sense that the New Testament does not say she rode a donkey. Maybe she did, maybe she rode in a wagon of some sort, we don't know. It is likely that, either way, she and Joseph would not have travelled alone through the desert. Most likely they traveled with a group (caravan) of people (maybe family) heading to Bethlehem.

This is sort of like Eve eating an apple. The Bible does not say that the fruit she ate was an apple so when we, through pictures and movies, put an apple in her hand we are being unBiblical.

Is it a "big deal"? Well nobody is going to hell over it if that is what you mean by big deal. However I do believe it is important that we get it right. Do I suggest we go around changing all the nativity scenes (etc)? No. It does no harm to the story and, as I said, nobody is going to hell over it. For example the Nativity movie that was just released. Great movie, however, they put the magi and shepherds there together at the manger scene. Did it ruin the movie? No. Would I have liked to see them get it right? Yes.

The point of a Nativity scene is to represent significant events and meanings relating to Christ's Nativity (as opposed to his mere birth) with an economy of symbols. And this it does very well. It isn't intended to be a chronological, real time, retelling of the Christmas story, and anyone with a cursory knowledge of the Scriptures will immediately see that.

No one will be confused or otherwise feel betrayed or deceived, or even feel there is an attempt to deceive on the part of the people who display these scenes.

They're beautiful, and I say go with it.

Martin, I agree with you on the movie and the magi.
Coincidentally, I heard an interview with the screenwriter of the movie on Christian radio last night.
    {He also did "Radio" and "Miracle" and some other family movies.}
He said he knew the magi weren't there at the birth but felt that it was such a tradition that he should put them there.

I don't see why it couldn't have been told accurately, though.

Did you notice that it showed the soldiers killing the children and then flashed back "One year earlier" to the scene with Zechariah in the temple?
It had to have been at least 15 months since Jesus was born 6 months after John.

I feel that if people think it's okay to add to the Bible here, why not elsewhere, for instance the salvation message.

It doesn't hurt to get it right.

==I did not understand why they started the movie that way. The opening of the movie, in my opinion, was weak for several reasons. Personally I think it looks like they really did not know "how" to start the film.

    Easy, there.

I enjoy speaking on all the threads I post on, or I would not post on them. I just find it interesting that with all the incorrect teaching that could lead somebody away from salvation we would focus on something this small.

I see what you are saying.

SO do you call Christ "Jesus"?

His name is Yeshua. It is only by the tradition of man who transliterated Christ's name into a more english sounding name that we know Him by Jesus.

If every detail is important then we should call him by the name that he was called. Yeshua.

I think I would have started it with the wedding of Mary and Joseph. Some of the more benevolent guests would be talking among themselves about the mysterious events leading up to this event, and others would be gossipping about Mary's condition. Joseph's father or confidant could send a knowing, reassuring glance in either Joseph's or Mary's direction, and then I would flash back to the Annunciation.

I saw the movie last night, and even with the few revisions to the story, thought it was one of, if not, the best movie I saw this year. Kudos to New Line Cinema and the filmmakers. I enjoyed it immensely... and the score was great!

I've heard very good reviews about it and wanted to take Brent to see it during the holidays, but now I can't get out from under 'couch arrest' until the Doc says it's all right.

We may have to wait and rent it when it comes out on video. If it is good, I will buy it so we can watch it every Christmas!

Typical christian mindset...who cares what the bible says, i'll stick with my traditon.

    Mark 7:8-9
    (8) For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
    (9) And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
