Nature’s Design: Creation as Witness

Nature’s Design: Creation as Witness

A world this ordered, this intentional, and this astonishing is not silent, it is a witness, and its testimony leaves us without excuse.

There is a design woven through nature that is too intricate, too purposeful, and too astonishing to be dismissed as the product of chance. From the coiling ascent of a python climbing a tree by concertina locomotion to the migratory precision of birds that cross continents, from the spiral of a sunflower to the rhythm of the tides, creation displays intention. It is not random. It is reasoned. It is ruled. It is revealed.

Scripture affirms this truth. Paul wrote, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse” (Romans 1:20). Nature is not silent. It testifies. It preaches. It convicts. And for the one who seeks truth, it confirms what the Spirit has already whispered: God is real, and His fingerprints are everywhere.

The heavens themselves speak. “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork” (Psalm 19:1). Every leaf, every tide, every heartbeat is a sermon. Nature does not whisper. It proclaims. It places us, not at the center, but at the feet of the One who made it. The Designer is not hidden. He is holy, and His handiwork surrounds us.

Even the serpent, often a symbol of deception, reveals design. The python climbs trees by gripping, stretching, anchoring, and ascending. It holds tighter than necessary, not because it is inefficient, but because it is cautious. It climbs to hunt, to survive, and to fulfill its purpose. This is not chaos. This is choreography.

Nature is not neutral. It is mathematical, moral, and majestic. It rebukes pride and invites worship. It does not point to itself. It points beyond itself. Paul wrote again, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made” (Romans 1:20). To observe nature rightly is to be humbled. To study it deeply is to be convicted. And to reason without the Designer is to reason in vain.

Let us not merely admire nature. Let us submit to its message. The design demands a Designer. And that Designer is not distant. He is Christ, through whom all things were made and by whom all things consist. John wrote, “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:3). Nature is not our god. But it is our witness. And it leaves us without excuse.

There is a temptation in man to marvel at nature and yet deny its Maker. He studies the spiral of DNA, the orbit of planets, the climb of the python, and still claims that it all arose by accident. This is not science. This is pride. Scripture describes this condition: “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools” (Romans 1:22). The creature, when puffed up, begins to worship his own mind. He reasons without reverence, theorizes without truth, and builds towers of thought that reach toward heaven but crumble under scrutiny. He becomes a fool, not for lack of intelligence, but for lack of humility.

Human intellect is a gift, but it is not a god. It can observe design, but it cannot create it. It can describe function, but it cannot explain origin. The scientist may measure the python’s grip, and the biologist may chart the tree’s growth, but neither can account for why such order exists. Job asked, “Canst thou by searching find out God?” (Job 11:7). The answer is no. God is not discovered by microscopes or telescopes. He is revealed through creation, through Scripture, and through the Spirit.

True wisdom begins with surrender. The creature must bow. The thinker must listen. The scholar must repent. For all our learning, we are dust. Yet the Designer has not left us in ignorance. He has spoken. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10). Let us not reason without God. Let us not admire nature and forget its Author. Let us not be wise in our own conceits. For the glory of creation is not in its complexity. It is in its clarity, its testimony, and its truth.

Your post provokes two thoughts in me.

1. When I think of God, I imagine Him as the Creator of a vast, complex, mysterious universe with trillions upon trillions of stars. Hubble Space Telescooe and James Webb Space Telescope images are thrilling.

All of the cosmos came from Logos. It did not arise from nothing. Logos contained everything. Why is the universe so gigantic? Is it some kind of cosmic machine? Why does it need so much stuff in it? One day, it will be rolled up like a garment and a new heaven and earth will replace it. It’s all so mind-boggling.

2. Whenever I see a spider, dog, squirrel, ant, bee, wasp, bird, groundhog, I pray a benediction upon it: “The Lord bless you and protect you from injury, predators, and disease. May you have a long, happy life, with many children.”

I connect with God through galaxies and grass, stars and trees. Every cloud formation is God’s sky art. Every thunderstorm expresses His anger with sin. Every creature manifests a particle of God’s mind. Every human displays the image of God.

It is wonderful to actually know, love, and serve the one true Living God who invited us to be guests in His universe, which could have existed without us in it.

One can see why evolution is such an important idea to propagate for Satan.

Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Rom 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Truth appeals to man's intellect and reason. Satan uses man's emotions to override reason.

Gen 3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

While Satan has woven the idea of evolution into every aspect of life from the news to movies and TV, it is in colleges that he gets the most effect. Satan entices those to follow his own trajectory;

Isa 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

Having been convinced that there is no God, it is fairly easy to point out that the universe needs one and to fill the role oneself is a natural next step.

If there is no God, then there is no consequence for indulging in whatever impulses one has. The idea can be attractive especially to the young.

A man the believes in God is like one asleep in the back seat of a speeding car. When he awakes he sees someone he trusts driving. A man who does not believe in God is like a man asleep in the back seat of a speeding car. Upon awakening he sees no one at the wheel and clambers over the seat to take the wheel himself.

Being able to see the beauty of God's creation makes the obscenity of evolution even more foul.

and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

And there it is, the same motive that prompted Satan to rebel, wanting more that what they had, wanting a higher place in the order of things.

it is in colleges that he gets the most effect. Satan entices those to follow his own trajectory;
Amen!

Being able to see the beauty of God's creation makes the obscenity of evolution even more foul.

Amen again!
