Its probably because Texas is the best state and they rule in just about every sport they play. Shaq is one of the best centers of all time. Name one center in the league that can stop him? Surely not Ben "you just got sent home" Wallece.

You would think living in Texas the choice of who to root for would be easy ... the Mavs. But I don't particulary care for Mark Cubin nor any owners like him that makes it hard. Also then you got to deal with the Mav fans talking smack because their team is in the finals and could win a championship. If your keeping track at this point Dallas has zero championships while SA has 3 and the Rockets have 2.

So do I root for the Heat? Well ... they pretty much forced Van Gundy out at the begining of the year then held a press conference and said he needed to spend more time with his family and he would be resigning. Yeah right! Plus Shaq already has 3 rings and has been to five championships.

All the above to say ... what the heck I will pull for the Mavs.

I meant how long do the play-offs last? A month, 2 months or what? I am curious.

Oh. Well... um... er, ah... don't I feel stupid? I owe you an apology, because I took your innocent question the wrong way. I am very sorry.

The NBA playoffs begin in the middle of April and usually end in early to mid June.

    Dear Convicted,

Don't feel like you have to pull for Cuban & the Mavs. (How can a Houstonite pull for a Dallas team anyway?) C'mon over and pull for the underdogs.

Yes, Shaq has a few rings. As one of the most dominating centers in recent history, he probably deserves them. Plus, he is not a stereotypical NBA player -- married for many years with six children. During the off-season, he is a volunteer policeman (he has a degree from LSU in criminology).

Regarding Van Gundy, I've heard everything from "he really did resign" to "yeah, right." Truth is, nobody knows except for Pat and Stan. Van Gundy is a good coach and a good guy. In fact, he attends the local Methodist church. He'll be coaching somewhere in a couple of years. Personally, I think part of it is true (he does have kids and did not enjoy the travel) and part of it was he was having difficulty with the new makeup of the team.

Bottom line ... leave the dark side and pull for the Heat!

    FOS,

More than anything I am hoping for a good 6 or 7 games series. I just got through watching the Sox sweep my Stros in 4 games ... I just hope Dallas does the state of Texas proud. I know a good bit about shaq and I realize he does a lot for the community. I saw where he got his M.B.A. last year and hopes to be a sheriff or in law inforcement down the road. Honestly I don't think either team is the underdog in this series. Both teams could win it.

I think you'll get your wish. It should be a great series.

We're hoping for a split in Dallas and then a sweep back home. We've only lost one playoff game at home this (of course, took my wife to that game).

I gotta question for all you basketball minds out there. I am sitting here watching game one and they were talking about what a great free throw shooter Dirk is at 90%. They were saying that was surprising seeing that he is 7ft tall. Now why is it that the 7fters have so much trouble making a free throw?

    Re: freethrows

Strength and hand size. If they could shoot bowling balls from the free throw line they'd probably do fine. When they use their leg strength in combination with their arm strength at the line that ball must seemingly weigh a couple of onces. Only a guess.

Also if they are large like Shaq they may have never learned to use their fingers and wrists in controling a ball like others who grew into the big man game.

What I have noticed about Shaq's shot is that he pushes every shot off the middle of his fingers, he doesn't allow the ball to roll of the end of his fingers. Dirk has a good flow and snap off his index finger. Shaq has spent virtually no time on his jump shot and Dirk is nothing but a shooter because of the amount of time he has practiced. I honestly think sometimes that Shaq does not care about making free throws because he knows he will make up for it on the front court. If that it is the case then I could not disagree with that more. Obviously shaq's eye-hand-coordination is nothing like Dirk's, but that shouldn't prevent him from becoming a better shooter. I have noticed how Shaq and Bo Outlaw alignn their arms when they shoot and its just plain horrible. The only way they are as bad as they are is that they just don't want to be better.

"were talking about practice ... pratice man"
