NC pastor shows his Christian love by condemning gay teens to hell at graduation event

Students and parents are furious that a North Carolina pastor told graduating seniors they would go to hell if they were gay – but he insists he was just showing his Christian love.

“Do I hate anybody? Absolutely not,” Pastor Scott Carpenter told WBTV. “I just love them too much not to tell them the truth.”

Carpenter, interim pastor at Temple Baptist Church, made the comments during the baccalaureate service at Kings Mountain High School.

“It’s a public school, (and) there are children here,” said parent Chuck Wilson. “I think there should be some level of responsibility of the speaker coming in to not take advantage of a captive audience.”

He described the pastor’s comments as “bullying.”

“Bullying doesn’t have to happen from the back hallway of a school or a back parking lot,” Wilson said. “It can happen from the pulpit, it can happen from the stage.”

Carpenter said he didn’t care if anyone was offended by his remarks at the nondenominational religious service, which was optional for students.

“Nobody got bashed or anything — all I did was simply speak biblical truth,” Carpenter said. “The number one audience that I have to please is God.”

Officials with Cleveland County Schools told the TV station they would exercise more caution when choosing future baccalaureate speakers.

Wonder if he touched on repentance for the homosexual offense or the thousands upon thousands of other offenses made by individuals?

Convince them about homosexuality and if they are lost, you won the debate, but they still go to hell.

If you are wondering so much, then why don't you find us the transcript so we can see his comments, which this "news article" doesn't seem to supply?

Do news articles regularly provide transcripts of speeches?

Right...until then we should all just jump on your bandwagon and condemn this guy based on gossip, right?

First - the title is misleading!
The pastor spoke at the baccalaureate service - a service that seniors were NOT required to attend.
In addition, the speaker is NOT chosen by the school.

Silliness. Nobody asked you to jump on anything. Sounds like some sort of repression to me. I posted a story. If you don't like the way the author wrote it, shoot him an email.

I doubt any pastor or believer can condemn anyone to hell. If by quoting God's wrath towards those who commit a sexual sin and refuse to repent and walk away in a new direction will put the self on a road to hell, then that is within the rights of those commissioned to preach the Gospel. We can't candy coat or be selective in applying the Word to sin and the sinner. God condemns the unrepented sinner to hell. Not the preacher or believer who speaks the truth in love and concern toward the sinner with the hope of getting them to recognize their sin, repent and turn before it is too late.

Zaac. Quit playing word games when it comes to the responsibility to share the Gospel.

But I do wonder how many homosexuals may have been convicited?

God's word tends to do that to those who reject Him.

Joh 6:60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
Joh 6:61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?

By the same token, stop talking to us about how the police conduct their business. If you don't like they way they do it, go talk to them.
