Ok, thought I'd pick your brains this morning.

We have our Christmas display setup, and on the roof this year I put our cutout message "Jesus Is The Reason" on the roof.

The letters are cutout from coroplast, then holes drilled to put the lights in the letters, so it's visible during the day, and when the lights come on, it's very visible at night. The letters themselves are about 16" high.

Looking at it last night, it occurred to me that I have a lot of roof left, so I thought it would be cool to put one bible verse on the roof every year, and make it a different verse each year to witness to people who drive and walk by and look at our display.

For this year I'm considering Luke 2:11

"For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."

So what I'd like, is if anyone has a favorite verse that would suit this, please let me know so I can mark them down, along with my other favorites.

I think this would be a very cool yearly tradition for our Christmas display!

We also decided to just put out one Santa this year, he's a small blowmold that will set under the big tree. We've always liked keeping the spiritual feel of the display, instead of just loading up on any and all "societal" christmas decorations.

Sounds like a beautiful display.
I like the verse you selected.
If you go with something else I would go with something like John 3:16. It isn't often associated with Christmas, but it really IS the reason for the season.

Thanks TS. That one will definitely be made for an upcoming year.

If memory serves, there are a few verses in Psalms, I'll have to look through them, that has a description of Christ...

anyone know those off the top of your head?

Now Woody if you really have a huge roof Isaiah 9:6 is great.

You might consider putting just the first part of the verse up there, "For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given..."

Happy Birthday Jesus!!! Thank you for coming!!!

Re: "instead of just loading up on any and all "societal" christmas decorations"

Jer 10:2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
Jer 10:3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
Jer 10:4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
Jer 10:5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

Not trying to be difficult, just sharing the Word. Seems to me that by observing these holi-days that we are condoning them.

Thanks Lorrie, I will remember that next time I am tempted to worship a tree. After all, as you quoted for us, it is not in a tree to do evil or good.

I think your Luke 2v11 choice is an awesome one Woody!

Thanks C4K. I think that would be a fitting "first verse" to put up. I just hope I can get it all finished and lighted before the season is over...lol.

Hi,perhaps Luke 2:29-32 if it is not too long

"Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel."

Any chances of seeing a picture when it is finished?(whatever the verse is :D )

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us,and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the father, full of grace and truth.I like this one,John 1:1 would be a good one to precede John 1:14 RTG

Good day all. Wanted to give a quick update.
We drew up and cutout all but 21 letters last night for our 2005 bible verse in lights.
We are hopeful that we'll get the 21 letters left cutout tonight, and start drilling the holes for the lights to poke through!!!

Woodymdt, here are a few:

Joh 12:46 I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.

Joh 1:29 ...."Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Joh 3:17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Joh 8:12 ... "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

Mat 16:16 Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Rom 5:8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Isa 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
