A lot of Trump supporters were cross over democrats in open primary states, they'll cross back over in the general election and vote for Clinton! I'm not seeing as many hard core Trump supporters as before since Cruz and Kasich suspended their campaigns! They did their job and now they've swung back to Clinton!

Which is not an indication of anything other than what happened at that moment.

It indicates the Trump was not the first, second, third, or choice of 61% of Republicans. It shows that a majority of Republicans do not want Trump as the nominee.

Presumably because he is viewed as the easiest Republican to defeat in a General Election.

At best it may show that there are a number who had another preference but it has no means to indicate whether Trump may be a good alternative to whomever they voted for originally. You read far too much into it.

You don't think so....You don't think facts are true? Please elaborate.
To say that he "failed" implies that he is rejected completely by these voters.

It's just not true. For example. I'd have voted for Rand Paul before Trump. After Rand Paul, I'd have voted for Mike Huckabee. After Huckabee, I'd have voted for Kasich. I'd have voted for Carson after that. Yet, I will still vote, without hesistation, for Trump against Hillary.

So Trump did not "fail" with me. There are MILLIONS of republicans who voted for other candidates who will still vote for Trump against Hillary.

So, among Republican candidates, Trump is your fifth pick. Thanks for proving my point.

I don't think I proved your point.

It seems that you are implying that Trump is a failure as a candidate. The fact that he is not many people's FIRST choice certainly does not make him a failure.

This is especially true since he WON the Republican nomination and garnered more votes than any Republican candidate in history.

Look, I don't like Trump. I try very hard to not find myself in the unenviable position of defending him. He's certainly no Reagan.

But we cannot afford to let an AVOWED liberal who says in NO UNCERTAIN TERMS that a child in the third trimester has NO PROTECTION under the constitution and VOWS to limit gun rights and limit religious freedom- we simply cannot AFFORD to take our toys and go home because we don't like Trump and let her get elected.

My point was that Trump wasn't the pick of a majority of Republican primary voters. He wasn't the first, second, or third pick of primary voters. You definitely proved my point with your personal experience.

The fact that every Republican candidate in the modern primary voting era, going back to Gerald Ford, has won the majority of primary voters. Trump didn't do that. Compared to all these other candidates over the past 40 years, yes, Trump is a failure.

Oh, and he hasn't won the nomination yet.

Look, I don't like Trump. I try very hard to not find myself in the unenviable position of defending him. He's certainly no Reagan.

Trump was (still is?) in favor of partial birth abortion. Trump was (still is?) in favor of tighter gun control laws. Trump is in favor of loosening libel laws, which could be used to prosecute religious free speech cases. Trump has said any position he takes on an issue is an opening gambit--a place to start the negotiations. Fact is, you don't know what you're getting with Trump, just that he's not Hillary. I suspect most Trumpies would vote for Howdy Dowdy if he were running against Hillary!

I don't think so.

Provide your sources. Make sure that they are recent (you said "still is").

How recent does it have to be? 3 years? 5 years?

Anyway, since Trump says any position he takes is negotiable, it doesn't matter what he says.

5 years.

A lot of us have changed on a lot of things since five years ago.

Reagan supported the most liberal piece of legislation ever written (The New Deal) just a few years before he ran and became the Republican governor of California.

This shows that we are very forgiving of people's "flip flops" when we like those people.
It also shows that "flip flops" can be genuine.

A few years?!

The New Deal was an FDR policy from the 1930's. Reagan ran for governor of California in 1966. That's over 30 years!

Reagan was a democrat in the 1930's yes, but his positions began to evolve toward conservatism in the early 1950's, about the time the Cold War was getting intense. He gave a rousing conservative speech on behalf of Goldwater late in the 1964 campaign, on national television, that cemented his spot as a small government, constitutionalist conservative.

The last quote I know of wherein Trump supported abortion was made in an interview about 15 years ago.

"[Reagan] fought against Republican-sponsored right-to-work legislation and for Helen Gahagan Douglas in 1950, when she was defeated for the Senate by Richard Nixon."

Trump showed his support for abortion when he praised Planned Parenthood on the debate stage, no caveat included. Only when he realized he showed his hand on abortion did he try to cover that up with a pathetic exception that is no exception since Planned Parenthood is all about abortions.

No. That's not true.

He did not "support" PP. He said that they do some wonderful things (which I wouldn't say). He clarified that he meant mamograms, cancer screenings and birth control. They actually do these things.

He still said in no uncertain terms that in spite of these "wonderful things" he would defund them if they refused to cease performing abortions.

Everything Planned Parenthood does is centers around abortions. And none of them do mammograms, or cancer screenings, that is a lie, and the fact that Trump is trying to push that tells me how pro-choice he really is. So if he says they do wonderful things that can only be taken as a endorsement of abortion, and he did it on the debate stage for all the world to see.

But BlessedWife, if Donald says PP does mammograms it must be true!
