Macro, your new Pastor is right. Macro, it also sounds like you understand what it takes for a person to be saved, but can you recall a time in your life when you prayed and asked God to forgive you of your sins by placing your faith in Christ alone for salvation. I'm emphasizing this because there are many who understand what it takes for a person to be saved - in other words, they're very religious. Yet, they've never known a relationship with Jesus Christ. It's not simply enough to know what you need to do in order to be saved - you've got to act upon that knowledge by confessing your sins to God and receiving the forgiveness that only He can provide by placing your faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ - the work He completed when He died on the cross the pay the price for our sins. If you've never entered into a relationship with Jesus Christ, then be encouraged by the words of the Apostle Paul: "now is the day of salvation" (2 Cor. 6:2). Today, you can begin your relationship with Jesus Christ and receive the free pardon of sins that only He can provide. All you must do is confess your sins, admit that you can't save yourself, and place your faith in the Son of God. If you'll do that, then the Holy Spirit will come to dwell within you and God will grant you the peace of mind that comes with the promise of abundant life on this Earth (John 10:10) and the hope of everlasting life in heaven (John 14:2-3).

I would say you know a lot right here. Share this with your new pastor who sounds like an excellent fellow so far.

    Marco,

You are more wise and intelligent than you give yourself credit for. Don't knock yourself so harshly for what happened. I think if most of us were honest, we would admit that we have all been fooled by someone and followed something that might not be exactly Biblical. We're all human and make mistakes. I think you have a good understanding of what the Bible teaches about salvation based on what I just read in this post. Now, relax, read the Bible, spend time in prayer and ask God to open your eyes to the truth and make it clear for you, and spend some time with this new pastor and ask him to disciple you and to teach you more about the Bible and salvation. I would think if he were a Godly man (which it certainly sounds like he is), he will be more than happy to do this for you.

There is no reason to be embarrassed, you found out the error and misdirection this old church was taking you in and corrected the problem. Unfortanently many will not find out they are following the teachings of man and not the teachings on God until it is to late. My wife and I were Mormons until God rescued us. We were very decieved. I thank God every day for rescuing me from the LDS church.

It sounds like you know all the most important things. I would discuss this with your new pastor, he will be more then glad to help you start your new Christian life.

One more thing that bible they sold you. Was it a Watch Tower bible, published by the Jehovah Witnesses. If so please toss it and ask your new pastor for a new Bible. The Watch Tower bible is rewriten by the Jehovah Witnesses' and changed to fit their theology.
