New Dean for Liberty Baptist Seminary

O.K.,

This thread is primarily for Liberty students, but others are welcome to add their opinions.

My question is this: Who do you think Liberty should offer the now open Dean/president position to, now that Caner is gone?

My personal opinion, is that it should not be someone flashy, but a solid, professor from inside the Seminary.

I would love to see someone like Dr. Daniel Mitchell, or Dr. Gary Yates, as the new Dean. Both of these men, from the limited contact I have had with them in classes, are humble, low key, and wise men of God.

However, I am expecting another "celebrity" type. I hope not.

I think it would be wise to promote an internal candidate.

LBTS needs a low-drama, stable candidate.

I agree with you about not getting the Celebrity President. I made a mention before that I would like to see Dr. Russell Moore of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. I like Dr. Mitchell and believe him to be a sturdy candidate. I am not as acquainted with Dr. Yates. There are other Pastor/Theologians that I think would be good and that would add balance of both academic and the Pastoral. I have several men in mind for that office, but I doubt they would call any of these men. I think the pasroral/theologian would eliminate several at Liberty.

Ultimately, I would like a Pastor/Theologian: Russell Moore may be the prime candidate in my mind. I doubt he would be considered at Liberty.

2. Larry Flint

and the #1 person they will NOT ask to be President.....

James White is a first rate scholar. No way the folks at LBTS would have him.

David Allen would make a good choice. So would Andreas Kostenberger from SEBTS. No way Russ Moore is going.

He would be a wonderful choice. However if memory serves me right he has had some health issues in recent years. Dr. Yates would be great as well. He was very helpful to me when I was taking his class on the Gospel of John.

I am not sure that Kostenberger would accept the job, but if he would, LBTS would be simply idiotic not to attempt to get him. He would have the Academic credentials, the ETS connections as editor of the journal, etc. I simply cannot think of a better pick to lift the image, scholarship and integrity of Liberty.

Dr. Kostenberger would be the exact opposite of Caner. He would be wonderful in the role of Dean and President of Liberty Theological Seminary.Liberty would regain a lot of lost credibility.

I cannot imagine that Kostenberger would ever be a possibility at Liberty. Kostenberger is reformed and Liberty is not. Jerry Falwell would roll over in his grave if they brought in a reformed man as the dean or president.

If they were to get a godly man who makes disciples then the students will learn what living the Christian life looks like. People find what they are looking for. If they want oratory then they can find that. If they want a great man of God then they can find that in a man who has been tried.
