"New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson signed a bill Wednesday repealing the death penalty in his state, his office confirmed."

I might cozy up to the criminal defense lobby too if I had a grand jury investigating me.

A similar scenario happened in Illinois several years ago, when Governor George Ryan abandoned victims' families and exploited the issue as a smokescreen for his own criminal woes.

I fully expect the murder rate along the NM-Mex border to increase, now that they have no reason not to follow their victims across the border.

Really? Life in prison without the possibility of parole is not a reason to not kill? Besides, if execution were a detterent, Texas would not have murders. We all know that isn't the case.

You are correct about Texas as they put to death more prisoners than any other state. Also we know there are people on death row that are not guilty of the crime that put them there.

Read John Grisham's book, "The Innocent Man."

Have a blessed day.

So now, let's see if New Mexico has any murders. Another thing they should get rid of is their unconstitutional flag-- a Zuni religous symbol.

Yea that pesky old Bible. But if you believe that personal experience holds as much authority as scripture does then of course anything goes.

I fail to see the logic of your connection of the two books. What does writing about an innocent man who was sent to death row and escaped death by a few days have to do with the Bible. Are you saying the Bible supports a death sentence for the innocent? I think not.

My guess is you have not read the book. Grisham was a death penality advocate until he did the research that led to the writing of this book, his only non-fiction book to date.

By the way life without parole is a slow death sentence. Also, it costs more in our system to execute a man/woman than to keep them in jail the rest of their life. This has all been gone over before in other threads. You can find links in those threads or by doing a bet of Internet research.

Have a blessed day.

Every person sitting in prison, be it on death row, or wherever is innocent. Those poor poor innocent murderers and child rapists.

Bleeding hearts never cease to amaze me in their logic. They will defend abortion and cry over a damaged Condor egg in California while at the same time defending the right to life of a murderer or child rapists.

By the way, welcome back Crabby.

How about reading "the rest of the story", as it is?

It appears that Mr. Grisham was not unbiased in his writing, which does not surprise me. What DOES surprise me is his attitude towards Mr. Peterson when Mr. Peterson tries to point out some of his (Grisham's) errors- see the letter in which Mr. Grisham says, "I have no desire to re-hash the facts and bicker about who's right and who's wrong." I guess the facts only matter when they are on Grisham's side. And that is a POOR attitude for a professing Christian such as Mr. Grisham to have.

Was the death penalty overturned to protect the innocent ? Or for political reasons ?

I don't care what he says. My Bible is my authority. It does not appear to be that way for you. I don't see Grisham's name in scripture.

I don't bet. :tonofbricks:

The cost of the death penalty is only because of challenges, & lawsuits. If life in prison is a slow death, then why aren't you against IT ?

You could use a little bible research.

Execution is the best deterrent there is.

I have never seen an executed criminal commit another crime.

Have you?
