Just recd a phone call from "Social security" I was told my # had been compromised - and if I
did not contact SS - I would be arrested.

Please inform your friends not to fall for this scam.

Please note:
I know I joke a lot on BB BUT this is a actual situation. Unfortunately, I did not get a phone #

If they call you - please get the phone # and report it to authorities and /or you local TV station
so they can inform your community.

I’ve had that call a couple of times!
An obvious scam... Government doesn’t call you, they’ll send a letter...usually telling them you owe more... (got that one too!)

I got one of these yesterday, on my On Star on the car. I did not recognize the number and probably would not have answered it had it been on my cell or at home.

Reporting the call is a good idea. The number from which the calls are made are masked/fake. As someone else said, it can appear to come from your own number or even from a known SSA number. Don’t call back, Don’t give any personal info. If they threaten you, or ask for payments it is clear fraud.

There are similar scams involving IRS.

peace to you

There was a programme on TV here a couple of weeks ago about phone and email scams and interviewed people who had been scammed and lost a lot of money. They also interviewed someone who had got back at the scammers. By getting them to contact him, he got their internet number ( I can't remember what it is called) and accessed their computer system and CCTV network and you could see them making scam calls.

They also had someone who showed how easy it was to fake any phone number.

Another scam is text messages seemingly from someone you know saying something like "I am on holiday in Thailand, (or some other place) and have been robbed and need £xxxx.xx to pay my hotel bill, please can you loan me the money and I will repay you as soon as I get home?" I had one seemingly from my plumber.
My daughter received one from my brother in law. The only thing was, she was sitting with him in his house. Her family were staying with B-I-L and sister as they couldn't afford a holday
More recently my family have had similar messages on WhatsApp.
