I asked DH about restaurants and he's drawing a blank. Sorry about that!

I was going to add in the Staten Island Ferry - it's free and it's a pretty sight. :) The youth group just did that on Saturday and they said it was fun.

Thanks Ann for the idea about the ferry -- sounds fun (and free to boot!). Please ask DH to jog his memory. I've asked some others about restauarants, but haven't received much yet. (I friend (in another tax bracket) suggested the restuarant in the Waldorf. Yeah right.)

BTW, this cabin on the bay is where our youth was on Sunday afternoon for their Christmas party. Not NYC, but not bad.

    I'll ask around.

Is that in Miami? We sailed our boat down from Tampa, through the Keys at Marathon then up to Fort Lauderdale almost 5 years ago. ... wait - make that almost 6 years ago!! Wow!! But we saw Stiltsville which was so cool. Bob just showed me a chart with No Name Harbor where he just about lost a finger anchoring. :) Ahhh - memories.

Our visit to Ny Dec.23-26, 1974. We entered Ny city from the Lincoln Tunnel, 42nd Street, 3:00am Wow what a show on 42. The transendites (?)section.Went down 42th and saw a Chuch-full of nuts, coffee shop on the left side, called my wifes Aunt in Queens. Husband escorted us to their house.
    1. ride the L down to Staten Island, underground to Port Something. got out walk through a simular mall shops on both sides three floors until you are on street level in a big store and go out to street level.
    2. Visit China Town for a 10 course meal..
    3. Wouldn't go threw Lincoln park at night. Greenweith village on one side of Lincoln park, Harem Ny on the other. Visit Ellis Island and view the Statue of Liberty.
    4. Visit Madison Square Garden. Under Madison is Grand Central Station.
    5. Visit Rockefeller Center. See the large Christmas Tree, and People Ice Skating.
    Visit the empire State Building.
    6. Under bridge from Queens is a Prison surrounded by water. About all I can recall except the 5 story buiilding where my wife's Aunt and Uncle lived, many apartments inside but was hardly any tennents spoke english.
    7. GLAD TO FINALLY LEAVE NEW YORK CITY>
I guess it is still known as "The city that never sleeps."

Well, I can tell you that NYC, since Guiliani is cleaned up a LOT. No more hookers on 42nd street - and most if not all of the XXX places are gone. Now it's all shops. DH and I walked through Greenwich Village a few months ago and it was so pretty - not at all like it used to be.

Realize that 1974 was a completely different NYC than the one today. WAY different.

Ray - I also wanted to say that your geography (as well as spelling) is quite off. Greenwich Village is downtown and Harlem is uptown - no where near each other. Like over 100 blocks apart from each other (that's about 5 miles apart).

Yes, we live in Miami. Their Christmas party was at one of the Stiltsville cabins (who knew that you would know about Stiltsville?). My daughter got some great pics of the sunset.

Oh yeah! We knew about Stiltsville!! We couldn't get close because our boat draws almost 7 feet and it was too shallow around the cabins but how cool! So you can rent them out?? GOTTA tell hubby about that!

Here's a pic of our boat on that trip in Fort Meyers:

That was a wonderful trip. It was tough because we had a 3 month old and a 2 year old along with a 10 year old and 12 year old but what an experience. We'll never forget it. The water was amazing. :)

    I thought I might add:

Lincoln Center, you might like. Probably some things geared around the holidays.

NY Botanical Gardens- Probably have some nice thing at the holidays (It is in the Bronx)

Another restaurant you might enjoy is Tavern on the Green

South Street Seaport- Might enjoy walking around down there

Beautiful boat! Sounds like a great trip -- you ought to do it again now that your ninos are older. You have to be careful in the bay when draw 7 feet though, as a lot of Biscayne is very shallow. We even have to be careful drawing 3 feet.

I don't know if you can rent out there or not. A church friend (with a daughter in the youth group) is in an ownership group. That's how we had access to it.

I just thought I would add to my earlier suggestions, that if you do go down to Little Italy you will be very close to China Town. You might find it interesting walking through it if you have time.

    Enjoy your trip!

Thanks Steven. Good ideas. We usually try to hit the more ethic areas when we travel. We'll definitely make a point to get there (and hopefully eat there too).

Thanks to all for your advice and recommendations. We had a great time up in NYC. While we didn't have time to do everything, we crammed in as much as we could -- Central Park, China Town, Statue of Liberty, Rockerfeller Plaza, NBC Studios, 2 Broadway Plays, etc. Thanks.
