Don't you just love these Hollywood types who think they should tell the rest of us how to live, while they go around in their limo's, have their huge mansions, etc.?

I don't see much difference in the two posts, but that mine was a little more detailed

Well, so do I. They're nothing more than trussed up trucks that have grown far out of proportion. But I wouldn't necessarily call the driver of one a terrorist supporter.

What are you agreeing with?

We just traded in my 3 year old car with less than 34,000 miles on it and that's the car we used for vacations!

I now have a 2003 Saturn Vue, a small SUV, that gets 31 mpg on the highway... but then I'm the mom who goes to church and the library and not many more places.

I agree with those who said there are other 'groups' or 'vehicles' that are much more prone to use up gasoline... and don't think we should be overly concerned about this. It's an attack on SAHM's and families! If you didn't have all those kids... you wouldn't need such a big vehicle either! (Pun intended here)

I am an American!

Born an American!

With American freedoms!

With American desires!

With American tastes!

With American lifestyles!

And, enjoy the freedom to drive what I want and how much I want, and am willing to work and pay for it!

This whole premise is absurd!

Ever notice how many SUVs are in the US Presidential caravan? Or how many Law enforcement agencies / elected officials drive SUVs? Same for all the Federal Agencies -- FBI/whatever - nearly all driving SUVs?

So what's this premise tell me? It's hypocritical, that's what. Only the rich & powerful are supposed to have the privilege of driving SUVs and the rest of us average US citizens are supposed to feel like dung because we do? Spare us!

I drive a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, purchased in defiance to OBL-09/11 terrorists, purchased 3 weeks after 09/11 as an in-your-face to the terrorists & to help the US economy (I'd been thinking of trading for awhile, but 09/11 was the catalyst).

I've had this Jeep for going on 1-1/2 years. It has a total of 3350 miles on it. Yes, those are actual miles. I hardly think I've guzzled gas. I hardly think I've supported terrorists. Yes, I have no life. And yes, a little old lady (me) just drives it to church on Sundays & the grocery store.

BTW, what about all those oil wells sitting capped in the Gulf of Mexico, Texas, and scattered throughout the Southwest US?

We oughta be helping Israel more. The prophecy for tribe of Asher was his toe to be in oil. That would end our so-called dependence on Arab oil, as well.

Does anyone remember (of course not, you're all too young) the promise of the Alaskan pipeline? It was supposed to meet our American needs. Funny thing though, nearly all of it gets exported to Japan or somewhere.

Like I said.....this is all absurd.

Please note, I have little patience for the crowd that blames the nation's troubles on SUVs!

One of the reasons GMC/Chevy Suburbans are so popular in the Presidential caravan (Secret Service caravan) is that they are big (lots of weight to smash through roadblocks set by kidnappers/terrorists) and they can be easily armored underneath the metallic skins. The also have heavier suspensions in case you have to jump curbs or quickly go off the roads to escape.

The same principle carries through to law enforcement officials driving large cars. Sometimes chases are a full contact sport and they need the extra weight and more powerful engine to take the bad guys off the road and out of circulation.

Yes, Baptist Believer, I understand all of that. Which is why I (a displaced Southern woman who loves her truck), drive a MEAN MACHINE rather than a tin can. Besides, I like to sit up high.

What's the difference if you drive an SUV sitting on a truck chasis or a REALLY BIG truck (like a duelie) sitting on a truck chasis? (No offense, Justified, but it's SUVs they're targeting. :D ) Why just pick on SUVs for "gas guzzling?" :( Oh, here's one, why not pick on the RV / camper crowd...5-7 mpg? Oooohhh.

I know why...lets get the soccer moms upset, cause they're women. We don't wanna get the cowboys mad or Joe six-pack....there's a whole lot more of 'em! And they have gun racks behind their heads!

It's a sexist commie ploy, I tell ya. ;)

Oh boy am I in a controversial mood this evening...Oh well, what else is new? ;)

Lets take the original premise further shall we? If you are American and you pay taxes you are probably supporting terrorists.

Think about it, US government supported Bin Laden and other mixed nuts in Russian/Afghanistan war. Then in Iran/Iraq war US was supporting Saddam in Iraq then...with a little help to Iran now and then when things got quiet.

Oh well, could be worse, you could be in Australia and your taxes going to support Johnny Howard...ARGH!!!!

Pete ;)

I have always enjoyed driving my big gas GUZZLING cars and trucks, and didn't bother me to pay for the gas. It is a decission Olive and I made years ago.

I enjoy gas guzzlers (they are usually the most fun to drive - I almost fall into covetousness each time I hear the roar of one of those late 60's muscle cars) but recognize that, as long as we are a nation that runs on oil, we are going to be financially supporting regimes that do things abhorant to the cause of Christ.

The same logic that has conservative Christians calling for boycotts of AT&T and Disney must result in a call to stop using oil from Arab nations.

Hypocrisy is the minefield that we all must walk on a daily basis as citizens of the world.

There is some good news on the horizon concerning fuel cells, though. Perhaps investing in this technology would be a very stewardly thing to do for believers.

I'm agreeing with the notion that - for most people - they are unnecessary. I'm agreeing that many of them are gas guzzlers, which can a problem on many counts. I'm "agreeing" with myself ;) that they're are prettied up trucks designed to lure soccer moms.

I'm disagreeing with the idea that driving one makes a person a terrorist supporter.

Hey Murph, what are you? Paul Harvey?

At least he goes to page 4 & 5!

As for the comment of the old muscle cars, BOY! How I miss them. These front wheel drive puddle jumpers just don't match up to the roar of the "BIG BLOCKS"!

And when was the last time you saw a puddle jumper do a wheelie? :D
