joshua, do you call any of these things sin?>>kleptomania, alcoholism, and pedophilia
it is so odd that you want to address political correctness issues more then the important issues.
where do you get that women are treated as second class citizens?
i dont understand thousands of children are killed in the womb yearly, agenda driven homosexuals infiltrate our schools, yet you worry about political correctness. it makes no sense

And here we go 'round and 'round again...

Joshua brings up the scriptures but refuses to cite the chapters and verses that have convinced him that homosexuality is not a sin.

Joshua, what do you say to a young homosexual person that has just wandered into your church and tells you that she feels cast out of society because of her homosexuality? What are your words of ministry? What words do you use to convince her that she is OK in God's eyes, that homosexuality is not a sin?

Again we ask, please teach us...

Granted that many Christians have wrongly "flamed" homosexuals. We need to learn how to practice gentleness and kindness in rebuking sin. But since when does calling sin a sin qualify as "oppression?" Would we be oppressive Christians if we called a practicing murderer an unsaved sinner who needed to repent? Now I know from previous dialog that you side with a very small minority who don't believe the Bible calls homosexuality a sin. You go to great lenghts to rule out OT scriptures as "irrelevant for today." And when confronted with NT scriptures such as:

"Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God (6:9-11, ESV).

You do a little word and meaning tampering until it sounds like you want it to sound. If I recall your argument went something like, "Paul was not speaking of monogamous same-sex partners" (to keep it short). Paul's phrase, "men who practice homosexuality," covers two Greek words for the parties involved in these acts. The first, arsenokoitai, means literally "male-bedders," which seems clear enough. The second, malakoi, is used in many connections to mean "unmanly," "womanish," and "effeminate," and here refers to males matching the role given to women for the purpose of sexual stimulation. God and Jesus spoke of a man and a woman "becoming one," but He never spoke of two men or two women becoming one!

And although in your mind you have decided that God doesn't mean it anymore, God said:

Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable. -- Lev 18:22 I don't see the disclaimer - unless they are true to one another!

Mr. Wells, I believe it's called "parsing" of words. In this case, it is "parsing" of Scripture. :(

It seems as though this is one of the most frequent themes on the Baptist Board. How unfortunate! It is more unfortunate that, contrary to the clear words of Scripture, many defend the sinful practice of homosexuality.

Practicing a sin without worry or need for repentance is the gospel you preach! :(

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned! - Galatians 1:8-9 (NIV)

    Paul thought that bore repeating . . . so do I! :(

    Joshua,

If you are affirming practicing homosexuals that's not Paul's gospel.

If you are affirming women having abortions, that's not James' gospel.

If you tell a practicing child molester they are right with God and free to remain in their sin, that's not Peter's gospel.

If you've been over it, how come you still don't get it?

Please feel free to discuss the actual topic of pro or con sodomites in the church on the Theology Forum. We have had some good discussions there (search) and on General Baptist discussion (again, search). Or start a new topic.

I think to argue on this site of "general news" is counter-productive. There ARE Baptists with vastly different views than mine.

That doesn't make them not "baptist". It just makes them wrong. [IMG]

    Joshua,

Ah ha! You helped me make my point. Notice I did not say "affirm" in that case but included it as an example of sin. Child molestation is another sin, no greater, no less in the eyes of God than the two you admittedly affirm. Since you objected to being identified with that sin, why don't you explain the difference between it and the other two, biblically? How can you "affirm" practitioners of the two and be appalled by the one? Scripture support would be nice! [IMG]

As Dr. Bob noted, this thread has gone far afield from the stated purpose of this forum Bringing and Commenting on Breaking News to Baptists. And as this thread hs gone to a third page, I am issuing the six hour warning. Either Brother Murphy or I will close this thread No Earlier Than 6:30p(PST)/930p(Board/EST).

I believe this is a greater sin. It brought God down from heaven to see this strange thing. Paul wrote a whole chapter on this sin Rom.ch 1. This sin caused God to destroy two cities because of this sin. Just my thought.
