From "our" track record here it does not appear to be the case. I am sure there are some, but the number is few.

I contend that it is fear of France and a strong EU that causes some of the bitter feelings towards the people of France.

Your Brother in Christ, a member of this board, a Baptist, who has not posted very much, has been deeply offended by a slang word referring to the French.

It is not a matter of being sensitive. It is a matter of being crude, boorish, and offensive to a fellow member of the board. It certainly wouldn't be permissible to use other derogatory terms regarding ethnic groups, and the word that was posted and was deleted falls into that category.

I hope no insults on any threads on the BB! This may be a news/current events forum but we are still supposed to be behaving like Christians and, one hopes, like adults.

I don't know why Christians think they can be nasty if the topic is politics or current events.

Sisters and Brothers

Thank you to all on this discussion board who realized that beyond races and nationalities, we possess a gospel that claims a heavenly citizenship for those who truly belong to Him.

I came to (accidentally) read this tread, my attention being attracted by the word “Francophobe” I did not realized that so much bad blood existed between our two nations (I will stay short of saying “hatred”). I can assure you that this feeling is not reciprocal and that in France, you would be welcomed with open arms. Surely some of my acquaintances would be astounded by what has been said and written (not only on this tread) about the French by America, a people we have always considered our friends.

All right, enough recrimination. I must admit that I may have appeared somewhat "thin skin" to some of you…. forgive me for this (all this proves that I am still all too human). I am looking forward to get to know whoever on this board is ready to allow me this privilege.

By way of introduction, I am a 60 year old Church Elder in a small community North of Edmonton Alberta. I came to Canada in 1968 to practice Architecture and shortly after was found by our Lord Jesus Christ, was saved and kept by His grace. I have a 37 years old son (two granddaughters 16 and 17) and a 30 years old daughter leaving in Redlands CA.

I have never been poorly treated in France. Every person I have tried to talk to has been gracious and helpful. I was trying to buy stamps at a post office outside the tourist area and was having a hard time getting the clerk to understand. Someone in the queue saw my dilemma and came over and sorted things out immediately.

You are welcome here Jean Claude. Merci for your comments. I hope we will hear more from you. I think you input could help clear up some things.

I was a little shocked by the deleted post. It shows gang mentality - a poster here was treated distainfully by someone who didn't even know him. We often see this directed at liberals (favorite target) and non-Americans.

A lot of this freely expressed malice towards the French is merely following the example of our current administration who were piqued by France's opposition to our Iraq War.

Anywho, welcome, Jean Claude Petit! I'm glad you weren't run off after all.

Referring to some of your fellow board members as francophobes is not exactly an invitation to civil discussion.

If I remember correctly , you don't like others to indiscriminately toss around the term "Bush Haters". What is the difference between that and what you did?

No "Bush hater" posts were edited or deleted. Some believe there are thos who hate Bush. I believe they are some who are afraid of or do not like the French. The derogatory comment that had to be deleted is evidence.

Nontheless - I will edit the title.

Some people take great pride in maligning all things French whether they have any personal experience with them or not. It's weird, but true.

If the shoe fits, wear it. If it doesn't, don't even try to put it on.

In other words, if what I say is a size 9 and you take a size thirteen, obviously the shoe isn't yours.
