But where I come from, enforced patriotism is fascism....which is what we fought a war against 75 years ago
Standing for the anthem is NOT enforced patriotism- in fact -a true patriot will also place his hand over his heart (military and Veterans will give military salute). We have never complained about those many players who do not put their hand over their heart. But kneeling is considered an insult. In fact, there have been times where I have positioned myself to stop people who walking during the Anthem.
Simply put - we are asking you to show respect to us (especially military and Vets) during the Anthem.
I would add, that if I were in the UK -I would show proper respect. (BTW - the music for God Save the Queen" is the same as "America the Beautiful"
And the same goes for any Country I was in. Back in 1975, I was stationed with the US Army in Germany. The German Army was having a ceremony for new German enlistees. Invited to participate was the US Army and the French Army (as we both had troops in Zweibrucken) I considered it an honor to have been part of the American contingent and felt proud to respect the Flags of Germany and France.
Respect: high or special regard
