Nicotine

Quick link?
I don’t know how to “link” to anything in my phone. Sorry, not particularly tech Saavy. I just googled “are tobacco farmers eligible for government subsidies?” Some we’re just anti-tobacco sites which didn’t give amounts.

On one site I found the info of $60 million a year.

Disagree! - If he can do this - then what else will he regulate.
Then anything is subject to be regulated.
IMHO there is just too much regulation by the federal govt.
To be a little more clear, the POTUS enforces the laws passed by congress and that are signed into law. The laws concerning the regulation of tobacco products are certainly on the books, but what authority the POTUS has concerning nicotine concentrations, I’m not sure.

If he has the authority, then sure, regulate nicotine.

There is a role for federal government regulations in all areas of commerce. The question is always “how much” regulation balances public needs (safety) with freedom within a capitalistic society.

Having someone in power that actually runs large businesses (and or small businesses) is a good idea to get their perspective on regulations.

The Amish farmers in SE Pennsylvania grew tobacco
…but not so much anymore.
…they grow hemp.

Puts a whole new meaning to the phrase, “field trip”.

A quick google search found at least $60 million per year in subsidies to tobacco farmers.

Wouldn't that be about nothing? In my State, which was the largest producer, farmers are no longer being subsidized to grow tobacco and have either gotten out of farming or switched crops altogether. Fields after fields after fields in my state used to grow tobacco. No more!

Well, $60 million is still a lot of money, but when compared to about $45 billion annual federal agriculture subsidies, it looks pretty small.

Why support a product that is known to cause cancer? In fact, why allow the process of making cigs (with all the chemicals that cause addiction and cancer) at all?

From a public health stand point, should the federal government force tobacco companies to simply produce tobacco without the added chemicals for “preservation” and “taste”?

It would be like the old days. Carry a tobacco pouch, roll your own with no filter, no added chemicals.

Yes. But I think you meant without chemicals.
