What does better have to do with it? That is just the calvinist way of avoiding the reality that people actually do have a God given free will. What made you so special that God picked you out before time began, how were you different from all the other billions of people that would live? Were you going to be smarter or sin less or did you just win the lottery and your number came up?
Here we see the fallacy of Sliverhair's thoughts. "What made you so special that God picked you out?"

Since salvation is by grace alone (unmerited favor) the answer is clearly, "nothing." But, Sliverhair gives away the core of his humanism in asking the question. Deep down, free will philosophy promotes merited salvation. In Sliverhair's theology, the one who is saved is the one who merits God's salvation by freely choosing God. Sliverhair can then tell us how special he is since he can boast in his choice of God and that God now considers him special for having chosen God. Notice that salvation is primarily about man's choice of God while God does nothing but watch. In Sliverhair's theology God's just munching on popcorn and watching the show. God cheers when a person does good and boos when a person does bad. But, the show is all about the people doing the performance, which in Sliverhair's theology is man.
