House intel chairman: No evidence of wiretapping claim

(CNN)President Donald Trump's claim that former President Barack Obama ordered the wiretapping of his phones ran into headwinds on several fronts Wednesday, as three top Republicans said they'd seen no evidence of the assertion.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes said he does not believe Trump's claim that Obama wiretapped him, but said it's possible Trump communications may have been gathered in "incidental" intelligence collection.

"I don't believe Trump Tower was tapped," Nunes told reporters Wednesday.

"We don't have any evidence that that took place and, in fact, I don't believe -- just in the last week of time, the people we've talked to -- I don't think there was an actual tap of Trump Tower," Nunes said at a news conference in reference to the baseless claim originally made by Trump several weeks ago.

"...I don't think there was an actual tap of Trump Tower,"

What does this mean "actual tap" ? Was his privacy bugged or not?

Here again, CNN is splitting hairs - yes, Nunes did say there was no evidence of a wire tap but didn't exclude other surveillance methods:

"President Obama wouldn't physically go over and wiretap Trump Tower. So now you have to decide, as I mentioned to [the press] last week, are you going to take the tweets literally? And if you are then clearly the president was wrong. But if you're not going to take the tweets literally and there is a concern that the president has about other people, other surveillance activities looking at him and his associates — either appropriately or inappropriately — we want to find that out."

Right. And "tap" may be a legalese term, which would require "court order" perhaps, thus, void an order not in the records, maybe that is where the comment "actual" tap comes in.

Key statements:

"...but said it's possible Trump communications may have been gathered in "incidental" intelligence collection."

"...don't think there was an actual tap of Trump Tower."

Electronic surveillance was possible , and even likely. Add the word "intentionally" to gathered in the first in the first statemtn and you have the nut of the matter.

Even Obama's non denial denial left that possibility open. He wouldn't have left it open if it hadn't happened.

Trump specifically accused Obama of ordering a wire tap on his phone. Let's deal with the specifics please.

CONFIRMED: FBI TAPPED COMPUTERS IN TRUMP TOWER AND FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF COLLUSION! Donald Trump, News

IT’S ALL COMING TOGETHER…

President Donald Trump set the world on fire last Saturday when he launched a tweet claiming that Obama wiretapped him at Trump Tower.

All week, the media has disputed this claim. Now, Circa.com journalist Sara Carter confirms with top US officials that the FBI DID IN FACT surveil Trump Towers as part of their investigation into “ties to Russia"…..and they found NOTHING.

Here are a few valuable snippets from her column that was released on Wednesday morning:

“Intelligence sources say that the FBI investigated a computer tied to Donald Trump’s business but there’s no evidence to date that would warrant criminal charges against any of the president’s associates.

The months-long FBI counterintelligence investigation into Russian efforts to influence the 2016 presidential campaign briefly investigated a computer server tied to Donald Trump’s businesses near the end of the election but has not gathered evidence of election tampering to date that would warrant criminal charges against any of the president’s associates, Circa has learned.

Widespread frustration

U.S. officials, who spoke only on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the information, said there is widespread frustration among intelligence professionals who have watched in horror as a normally secretive process has been distorted by media leaks and politicians uneducated about how counterintelligence operations actually work.
