The House Intelligence Committee could not proceed yesterday with a briefing on a plane shot down over Peru because Justice Department officials declined to be sworn in, Politico and The Associated Press reported today.
The officials and panel members were supposed to discuss an internal CIA report on the 2001 incident, which resulted in the deaths of two American missionaries.

Justice Department briefers refused a demand from the panel’s chairwoman, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), that they testify under oath

Associated Press
Rep. Peter Hoekstra, R-Mich., the top Republican on the committee, questioned Wednesday why the Justice officials refused to be sworn in. "Why is Attorney General Eric Holder afraid of having Justice Department employees be required to tell the truth?" Hoekstra said.

The House and Senate are working on bills that would force the White House to give more disclosures on intelligence information. President Obama has threatened a veto on this legislation if it approved by Congress, according to The AP.

Sadly, I just can't bring myself to trust our president with this huge issue, though it is his right to do this. On the other hand, if it was Reagan saying this, I'd trust him to do what is absolutely right for the nation.

It's all a matter of trust and truth-telling I suppose, eh?

The Bush administration was much worse. The CIA and FBI refused to answer questions about 9/11. In fact so did the President, Vice President, and the Sec. of State. Bush only agreed to answer questions if:

1. He wasn't under oath,

2. Both he and Cheney appeared at the same time,

3. No video, audio or note taking was allowed'

Of course as usual, he also could answer every question with "That's classified and I can't respond to it."
