No person can come to Christ by their own freewill ! 3

First, man cannot come to Him for life. He stated, “No man can come to Me, except the Father which hath sent Me draw him” (6:44). Again he says, “Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto Me, except it were given unto Him of My Father” (6:65). The ability to come to Christ for eternal life has two aspects: (1) an inner compelling or “drawing” by the Father to the Son, and (2) the gift or “grant” of the Father of the ability to come to Christ. He taught also that those who come to Him have been given to Him by the Father (6:37) RBS 10

When a person is being drawn by God or Christ its the equivalent of giving them both repentance and faith to believe on Him.

No man/person can come to Jesus Christ in believing except it be for performance of God ! Its like when Jesus says here Jn 3:20-21

20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Coming to the Light, which is coming to Jesus who is the Light of the world Jn 8:12;9:5,12:46 is wrought by God, its His accomplished work for men to come to Christ Jn 6:65

65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

The reason why men by nature cant come to Christ by their so called freewill is because mans natural carnal mind is enmity against God Rom 8:7

7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

That word enmity is the greek word echthra:

hostility; by implication, a reason for opposition:—enmity, hatred.

Man naturally in his thoughts, purposes is against God, hates God, so hates Christ who is God Jn 1:1 ! This characterizes mans lost state by nature, so thats why its declared that no man can come to Christ save the Father draws him Jn 6:44,65, or except a man is born again ! 10

Free will does not exist. We have a self will that is bound by sin. So, of course "no one" has ever come to Jesus of their own will. When they come to Jesus willingly, it is because they are enabled and effectually drawn to Jesus, by the work of the Spirit.
jn1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

No man can come to Christ naturally because by nature as Paul writes concerning the gentiles in Eph 2 they are helpless and without hope in themselves pertaining to Salvation Eph 2:12

12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

Man naturally, is without spiritual strength Rom 5:6

For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. We were by nature powerless to help ourselves, in a dead lost spiritual state !

If God was to leave a man to himself, what we are naturally, we would never be saved, we would never seek the True God , which is the God of Election Rom 3:11

11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

We would never come to Christ, the True Christ that came only to save a particular people and not everyone without exception Matt 1:21

21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Who laid down His Life only for His Sheep Jn 10:11,15

11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

The Christ who was only commissioned to Give Eternal Life to Gods chosen Jn 17:2-3

2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

3 And this is life eternal, that they[the elect given Him of the Father] might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Man naturally wont come to this Jesus Christ Jn 5:40

“And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

By nature we are at enmity against this Christ Rom 8:7

7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 11

In essence Jn 6:44,65 are saying no man can believe in Christ for Salvation unless its[belief] is given. Jn 6:65

65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

Phil 1:29

29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

Paul here is stating the same thing Jesus stated in Jn 6:44,65 !

Of course many men come to Christ carnally, but not Spiritually. Remember some believed on Christ because of miracles and He fed them

Jesus is saying man naturally lacks spiritually the will and ability to believe in Him, so really He talks against the man made doctrine of mans so called freewill. Man has not the ability because by nature he is dead in sin, dead to everything that is Spiritual 1 Cor 2:14. In the flesh, we as men are spiritually deaf, blind and sit in darkness Isa 42:7

To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.

Lk 1:79

To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

While unregenerate we make our abode in spiritual darkness !

In this condition man cannot and will not come to believe in Christ. It must be given to man to believe in Christ ! 12

So coming to Christ, believing in Him is impossible unless its given to a man, which corresponds to being drawn by the Father, this confirms the understanding that Faith to believe in Christ for Salvation is the Gift of God Eph 2:8 , its through and by powerful grace, and not by the ability of mans freewill.
