Please tell us where the NRA has condoned lawlessness at any point in its history? In point of fact, the NRA stood up for the rights of the newly freed slaves in the south to legally own firearms against the Democrats who wanted them disarmed.

I think to seek to attach this label on the NRA is extremism at it's best. Thing is I think even many soft supporting leftest KNOW it's a bunch of nonsense to suggest it but it's given for mere effect. Problem is though the left might lose some of their supporters making others concerned just where the extremists are taking them.
