Number of undocumented immigrants in USA falls to 12-year low, researchers say

The estimated number of undocumented immigrants living in the USA reached a 12-year low in 2016, continuing a decade-long decline in which that population fell from a high of 12.2 million in 2007 to 10.7 million in 2016, according to a report released Tuesday.

Researchers from the Pew Research Center, which conducted the analysis, said economics played a major role in that fall. The Great Recession wiped out millions of jobs that attracted undocumented immigrants to the USA, while the Mexican economy steadily improved, giving Mexicans more reasons to stay in their country.

Mark Hugo Lopez, Pew’s director of global migration and demography research, said the U.S. government’s ever-expanding security presence along the southwestern border – under Democratic and Republican administrations – deterred more immigrants from trying to cross illegally. Shifting demographics in Mexico have left fewer working-age males willing to make the dangerous trek.

I took a course in statistics many decades ago.

On day 1 the professor walked into the room and said "you can prove anything with statistics".

It all depends on the mode and several other statistical factors which can be used to eliminate or reduce numeric volumes.

Then there are the deceptive manipulators of statistics, i.e. those who are preparing the study (e.g. Deep State).

IMO this "fact" of Reduced Volume of criminal immigrants is Fake News.

We are indeed living in the Orwellian age of the rewriting of history by the Ministry of Truth.

Maps to the gaps? Get out of jail free cards? Bellies full of anchor babies? Multiple welfare tickets? Untreated communicable diseases? Illegal drugs? Child prostitutes? Guns & ammo? Gang membership cards? Free legal services vouchers? Democrat voter ID’s? Guides on how to bilk the system?

OK, I give up. What are they bringing over?

I vote for “ALL OF THE ABOVE”! Even if only one or two, it needs to be stopped!!!!!!

And? The fact is those that are here still shouldn't be here, and there are still thousands of Central Americans who have little or no skills at the border clamoring to get in. We simply cannot afford to keep letting people into the country who will become wards of the state.

Why did Trump employ them on at least two projects? I agree that we need to take a hard bi-partisan look at our immigration policies. I'm not in favor of having illegal immigrants. Will the Republicans ever agree to do that?

They have agreed to it over and over again in fact they are the ones always pushing for it.

The correct number of illegals immigrating into the USA should be Zero!

They have never in the recent past agreed to work in a bi-partisan manner to solve anything.

Because to Democrats, working in a "bi-partisan" manner means agreeing with them, so that is why nothing ever get's done. Democrats want illegal immigration to continue and at some point for these people to receive citizenship. They need new voters who will vote for them since they have lost their traditional native born working class base.

I have no idea, they probably had forged documents

Did Trump personally hire them (and check all paperwork) or was it an employee (supervisor) who hired them.
Granted Trump is ultimately responsible - but lets keep it in perspective.

There were probably at least two levels of management between Trump and these workers. And the workers probably worked for a "subcontractor" (e.g. Acme Landscaping) not directly for "Trump Inc."
