NYC Muslim Teen’s Lie About Trump Supporters Attack Shows Media’s ‘Fake News’ Problem

Why do you blame the police?
From what I read in the Story - it appears they did not act "stupidly".
Reporters routinely scan police reports, which are made public, to find stories. In this case reporters were simply printing the information in the police report. The Muslim teenager duped the police and the media repeated the lies.

I dont think the police were "duped"
They went to investigate a possible (aka alleged) incident.
It would be poor police work to make an on-the-spot judgement - without a proper investigation.
They did a full investigation - and then found the report to be invalid.

Am I missing something here?

Seems to me the police issued a report first, based on a complaint by only one person, then investigated.

That seems reasonable -

Now CBS news reported "Muslim teen verbally attacked on NYC subway” reported CBS News.

CBS should have inserted the word "allegedly "

But back to the report - - police correctly made and filed an interim report - and then assigned appropriate officers to investigate.

It's probable that in this age of political correctness the police have been instructed to take these incidents as being true, and to record them.

I suspect if a twenty-something person were to go to a police station and report they were beat up and robbed by an elderly woman it likely wouldn't get written up without an investigation. I don't know why this needs to be explained.

Umm, a report must always be taken. Regardless of the pc involved. That does not mean they have been duped.

You think too highly of police mentality.

You think too highly of police mentality.

I have had interactions with many police throughout the country - and over all, and based on experience. I do have a high regard for the police.
