    It appears to me (admittedly a blinking foreigner) that the photos show the American president trying VERY hard to appease everyone, notice that no-one is doing a kow tow back.....

    Why bother, it certainly does not make foreigners love America so be American, simply stand tall and shake their hand if offered and not if it is up to the other to offer the hand first. Western civilisation has this horrible appeasement complex....historically stuff happened that from the eye of the contemporary world is not to be lauded, but MOVE on.

    Mr Obama certainly needs not be other than courtesy demands as an American to the Pope. The pope certainly knows he is not Catholic, he is a head of state as is the pope in this context.
