No chance. With the popular vote as close as it was, many of the votes would go to McCain, giving him the required 270. Some might vote for Hillary (I doubt it), but particularly in the closer states, McCain would get the votes.

The Democratic electors WON not Barack Obama. The constitution says that the electors can vote for whomever they want. I assume they would not want John McCain but would vote for HILARY CLINTON. That's OK with me. What do you gain unless of course you just don't want to see a black man elected President. Is that it?

This wasn't addressed to me but ...

There's the race card again! It wasn't played for the Gore vs. Bush, contest however.

Personally, I didn't want this half-black man to be elected President but he has been.

I'm not anti-Bush. I voted for him three times (once for Governor of Texas and twice for President).

I'm also one of the few defenders he seems to have left.

I think you have mistaken me for the person who goes by the moniker of "BaptistBeliever" (no space) who took that name when he registered (five years after I had established an identity here), has consistently refused to respond to e-mails to discuss with me a way to ensure that we were not confused with each other, and has generally been rather rude to anyone who doesn't agree with him.

I'm not that guy.

I'm glad you made that clear.

Indeed, if he will not change his handle to avoid confusion then perhaps the administration could take an effort to do so. It is troubling to allow this, and you, having the earlier handle, should not be the one to change.

When I joined the board I picked a handle and it was accepted. I didn't know that there was a similar one. I've never received an email from Baptist Believer but perhaps they've been blocked by anti-spam software. A better approach would be to create a message on the board. I'd be willing to change my handle but I don't believe the BB allows that. By the way, I agree that I have dealt rather harshly with people who call me names because I haven't ever voted for Bush or insult my intelligence. I'd much rather have amicable discussions but that doesn't seem possible here if you have different views. The piranhas zoom in rather quickly and call you a communist, socialist, fascist, unchristian. How long would you refrain from answering in kind if that happened to you repeatedly?

I sent a couple of PMs to you from the very first week or so you posted.

A better approach would be to create a message on the board.
I tried that too, but you seemed to miss or ignore those messages while continuing to post on the threads.

I'm not sure about the situation now, but in the past (and definitely when I first attempted to discuss this matter with you) people changed their handles all the time.

By the way, I agree that I have dealt rather harshly with people who call me names because I haven't ever voted for Bush or insult my intelligence. I'd much rather have amicable discussions but that doesn't seem possible here if you have different views.
Certainly there are many people who don't know how to have a civil conversation, but that doesn't give you the right to act as badly as they do.

As for different views, in the 6.5 years I've been here, I've been blasted for all sorts of things. In some areas, I diverge quite widely from the commonly-held views and have taken a number of beatings over it, so I know what it's like. But that doesn't give your or me the right to act harshly toward others. I'm not perfect in that regard, but when I find myself getting ugly with people I tend to take a break from BaptistBoard and decompress.

The piranhas zoom in rather quickly and call you a communist, socialist, fascist, unchristian.
When I first got here I had a prominent person (who is now a moderator) repeatedly accuse me of being an atheist posing as a Christian. It took nearly a year of those accusations before that person finally got tired of attacking. There was another person who took every opportunity to accuse me of all sorts of theological and moral failures (most of them completely fabricated). He did that for about four years before he was finally banned. And there have been a number of others.

Fortunately, there are a number of people here of character and substance who know how to have a discussion without making it venomous. Even though I often disagree with them and they with me, they have the character and spiritual maturity to disagree in a loving and respectful manner. And those are the kinds of people I pay attention to.

How long would you refrain from answering in kind if that happened to you repeatedly?[/QUOTE]
We are supposed to refrain seventy-times-seven times.

Since I finally have your attention, why don't we figure out if we can alter your name in such a way that both of us can have a clear identity?

Not a problem. You are not the first, believe me.

Plus, you're one of those people of character and substance I mentioned in a previous post. Although the two of us are coming from very different perspectives and we have had a number of disagreements over the years, you are a person I can easily respect.

What a stupid statement. Yeah, that's it, not the fact he supports murder and everything else ungodly

As I said before, I'm willing to change handles. Can a moderator contact me about doing this? As for a higher level of conversation on the board I'm going to propose that in a poll and see what the response is. My guess is that it will bring attacks on me. Having a moderator accuse you of being an atheist is unacceptable and goes against board policy of questioning a person's salvation. That person should have been kicked off the board. I have started to ignore one individual who always responds in a hateful way. I intend to continue to write people off if they do so. Most of my sharply worded posts are in response to worse attacks against me and all "liberals/Democrats."

I don't believe Christians should be allowed to call other Christians murders, non-Christians, Marxists, etc. just because they vote differently.

I just made the request. I looked at my PM's and they go back to April 2008 with none from you. I know I wouldn't have ignored a request like this. Maybe they inadvertently got deleted. Sorry.

The confusion over names should be resolved. BaptistBeliever has graciously allowed me to change his name to JustChristian.
And I am thankful about that.

Just wanted to let everyone know that JustChristian sent me a very gracious PM and has been very humble about this confusion. I've come to believe he didn't realize the confusion he was creating and somehow missed my previous communications. I'm guessing that can happen when one is new to the BaptistBoard and does not obsessively tracking everything that goes on.

In any case, I have no quarrel with JustChristian and look forward to communicating with him in the future.

Thanks!
