Group to spend $2.8 million on anti-Obama ad

By JIM KUHNHENN, Associated Press Writer
Thu Aug 21, 7:09 PM ET

WASHINGTON - A conservative nonprofit group with a past link to Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign wants to spend $2.8 million on an ad questioning Democrat Barack Obama's relationship to a founder of the 1960s radical group Weather Underground.

The ad, which is expected to begin airing Thursday in Michigan and Friday in Ohio, focuses on William Ayers, whose Weatherman organization took credit for a series of bombings, including nonfatal explosions at the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol four decades ago.

American Issues Project, the sponsor of the ad, is a nonprofit 501(c)4 organization. One of its board members, Ed Failor Jr., was a paid consultant for McCain's campaign in Iowa last year. The campaign paid his firm $50,000 until July 2007. American Issues Project spokesman Christian Pinkston said Failor has no connection to the McCain campaign now.

Even Fox News is not airing this story.

This thread is a joke! Even Fox News is not airing this report. This time we are not going to let the "Swift-boaters" do to Obama what they did to Kerry. Obama and his supporters will fight back!

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2008/08/25/obama-to-doj-block-terrorist-ad/

Note that neither the BHO campaign nor the article you linked have sought to disprove the claims made by the American Issues Project ad. They simply conducted an ad hominem (an informal fallacy) attack against Harold Simmons, and are seeking to stop the ad based upon campaign finance laws.

Then at the bottom of the article they seek to arouse the emotions of the audience by falsely linking the American Issues Project ad to the Kerry/Swiftboat Vets for Truth material.

The article concludes with:

Your voice counts too. The Obama campaign - and tens of thousands of supporters - are also pressuring television networks and affiliates to reject the ads. The effort has met with some success: CNN and Fox News are not airing the attacks, and some local affiliates have refused as well. Sadly, the Sinclair network — the same ones who aired the Kerry SBVT smear campaign under the guise of a “documentary” has aired the ad in all of its outlets.

Surely we don't want the American people to have access to information about a Presidential Candidate and allow them to make up their minds one way or the other. Talk about a joke...

Surely Obama knew when he ran for President, his life would be an open book.

There is nothing in these desperation heaves, these Hail Marys, by Senator John Sidney McCain III supporters that will stop Senator Obama from winning in November.

By the way, Senator McCain's supporters have said that we should ignore things in his past. Shouldn't his supporters apply the same standard to Mr. Ayers?

McCain's supporters may have said something to that effect (I don't know). However, that does not mean that anyone in the BHO camp is going to abide by his request. So the answer is no we need to look into all aspects of the life of any man who runs for President. To do otherwise is simply foolish.

Why can't the BHO supporters debate the issue being raised, BHO's association with a self-admitted Anti-American terrorist bomber, instead of trying to redirect the discussion to some other topic?

As Ken said, this is old news. I doubt it will influence anyone except the McCain choir. By November I doubt it will matter much.

If this is the case then why is the BHO camp trying to block the ad?

So let's get this correct. You don't care that BHO was mentored by and developed some of his political philosophy at the feet of "Uncle Frank" an self-admitted member of the Communist Party. Likewise, the fact that BHO is friends with and sought the support of William Ayers, an admitted and unrepentant Anti-American terrorist bomber, when he began his political career does not concern you. BHO's connection to Marxist Saul Alinsky's "community organizer" lagacy in Chicago does not raise a concern for you. And BHO's connection and friendship with a Chicago slum lord does not concern you. Also, the fact that BHO was willing to sit for 20 years in the pew under the Anti-American, racist, and Anti-Semitic teaching of Rev. Wright (with influence from Father Phleger and Louis Farrakhan) does not cause any concern for you.

So when do you start to ask questions about the judgment and reasoning of the man who wants to be President of the US?

These continual questions about Obama don't bother me in the least. I also think that he will be a much better President that McCain could ever be. I also believe that between now and November most Americans will see that Obama is the best qualified candidate and that voting for McCain will just continue to add to the Bush disaster.

That doesn't answer the question.

Could you go back and give it another shot?

.......No!

The Obama campaign's refusal to talk about these problems and instead deflecting to something else as you are doing will probably cost him the election in the end.

So a vote for Obama is a vote against Bush?

That is what i am hearing from most Obama supporters..

Explain HOW Obama will not be like Bush.

What will Obama Do, and how will he do it?

Once you figure it out.. email Obama, and let him know, so he can tell the nation tonight.

If you are concerned with Obama, listen to the speech yourself. I know I will!

I look forward to future President Obama accepting the Democratic nomination and expect a rousing speech that will resonate across America. God help us if we continue to follow Bush's failed policies, which McCain will do.

I usually listen to his speeches... unless something is more important that needs done.

I am still waiting to know exactly how he is going to get the troops out of Iraq without damaging that region more.
I would love to have our troops home, and I do feel they need to come home...

But have you notice his campaign slogan has slightly changed over the last few months?... I have...

He started out saying, he is going to get the troops out of Iraq, now he is adding the word "responsibly" to the statement. Even Michelle used this phrase the other night...

Why the change?
  • He is realizing that it is not as simple as a phone call to the commanders telling them to come home...
  • He is realizing the truth the Republicans have been saying all along...
  • Also, when the troops are still there in 2010, he can say he didn't lie.. he is responsively bringing them home and that takes time... the same thing Bush says...

Have you noticed how the Bush administration has changed its stance toward a timeline? President Bush was adamantly against. Now his administration is working on a security arrangement with the Iraqi government that includes what? A timeline!

That's a scam.

He is not going to bring the troops home and has publicly stated so.

It's amazing how few people seem to notice...or care.:BangHead:

Okay. You have stated your lack of concern for issues related to BHO's associations and his apparent lack of good judgment in that area. Likewise, you have stated your beliefs about BHO. Now for each of those beliefs please explain why you hold those beliefs..What speciffically has BHO done that causes to have such belief (faith) in him?

I notice in your previous reply to my post where I quoted you (as above) you said that you are not concerned with BHOs associations and his apparent lack of good judgment in that area. However, you failed to answer the first question I asked you related to your above quoted statement. I'll ask again.

If what you are saying above is true why is the BHO campaign trying to block the ad from being played on TV?
