The Senate and House was predominantly Democratic in those Nixon years. He didn't need the GOP to tell him he would be impeached.

The committee vote is important because it refutes your assertion that Nixon fell because the GOP was disgusted with what he did. If they were so disgusted why did some NOT vote for impeachment?

You are right as far as you go but the point is that it takes more than a majority to convict in the Senate--it takes 2/3rds and Nixon did not have enough Republican votes in the Senate to be acquitted. Clearly if Nixon could have counted 34 votes in the Senate, he would not have resigned. Clinton, as you know, was actually impeached but he was acquitted in the Senate. In Obama's case, a bill of impeachment will not even be introduced. Obama is still riding high.

That has nothing to do with the real issue of why help was not sent. If Obama's golf clubs had been in Benghazi, he would have sent the Marines.

Its just not true

It is tempting to look for a scapegoat for the tragic events in Libya. However, if one exists, the overall budget for embassy security is not it. Funding for that purpose has risen sharply over the past decade. Moreover, the State Department has considerable latitude in allocating security funds based on current events and intelligence on possible threats. Why that latitude was not applied in Libya deserves further scrutiny.

Just to clarify - was that "cut" from the current operating budget or from a proposed increase?
Or let me ask it this way - what was the budget for 2008, 09, 10, 11?

Of course I am aware, but all diplomatic outposts fall under the same budgets.
